bfeldmann (1042), Wilmington, Delaware, USA Apr 1, 2009 Poured a normal brown color almost not head. Aroma was dark fruits and caramel. Flavor was like bad dark fruits like they were borderline bad when they were used some pine hops. Very astringent. All bad, train wreck.
FlssmrBrewAlum (1079), Lisle, Illinois, USA Mar 31, 2009 12 oz bottle I believe that is the last bottle from my local trade with Drnk McDermott back in the fall. Thanks, Mark! Pours a dark brownish red murky pour, no head that forms into a small film, with some good aromas coming off. Aromas are a touch boozy, hitting up caramel and toffee with notes of vanilla, light cocoa, and subtle licorice. There is still a bit of a hoppy floral, but lacking a bit for the sweetness that is being thrown at me. Initial is malty, a little dead body wise for the style, throwing caramel, toffee, and vanilla at me straight away. A tad thin, with some coffee and chocolate brownie coming into the equation further into the body. The hops have died considerably, leaving this brew unbalanced, but preserved. Finish is malty with subtle hop bitterness lending more of a hand. Dissappointing overall, but well preserved. Hops could have played a more key role. hoppopotamus (182), Santa Cruz, California, USA Mar 28, 2009 Hazy amber brown with a small off-white head. Aroma is heavy on the alcohol, with nice roasty dark malt. The flavor has a bit of hop bitterness and ends in some chocoalaty/coffee roast malt flavors, which mingle quite nicely with the finishing hop biterness. Nice American BW, not exceptional. Joakgust (320), Stockholm, Sweden Mar 28, 2009 Bottle, 355ml - Hazy amber red beer with a lazing head. The aroma is malty with notes of caramel, toffee and hops. Flavor is sweet malty with strong notes of caramel, licorice, chocolate and alcohol. Not at all as bitter as u would expect an American barley wine to be. Had higher hopes actually from this brewery. l1br4r14n (274), Washington, Washington DC, USA Mar 27, 2009 A decent barley wine. Licorice and alcohol in the nose, tastes much like it smells. Agaguk (119), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada Mar 26, 2009 Bottle shared with Pyrozoid, French Tickler and Grand Genie. Pours a brown reddish appearrance with an off white bubblely head. Aroma: maple, grapes, toffee, vanilla, alcohol (rhum), black olives, candy sugar, and cream soda. Flavor: molasses, alcohol, ginger, peppery, cinnimon and licorice. Medium to full body, average carbonation, silky with an alcohol peppery finish. french tickler (642), Aylmer, Quebec, Canada Mar 26, 2009 Dégusté avec Pyrozoid, agaguk et grand genie.
