Commercial Description:
Big malty flavors, including licorice and chocolate, are balanced with a moderate hop profile. Brewed with copious amounts of prized malts and flaked oats, the Barley Wine is so strong that it has to be aged for several months before we can bottle it. Like a fine wine, it will continue to improve with age up to 2 years after bottling (If kept cool).

Very good example of a barley wine. Did not detect the licorice suggested by the labeling, thank goodness. Nicely sweet. Last few room-termperature sips tasted like candy.

2006 bottle. Nice looking ruby color with a smallish head. Aroma is quite sweet with lots of candy, sugars, oranges, cherries, and light hops. Flavor has lots of sweet & dark fruits, darker cane sugar, and some light alcohol. It works, but still mediocre at best (and I’m guessing better at this point than fresh). Overall just an OK Barleywine.

Pours deep amber with an adequate head and lacing, strong aromas of various malts and some licorice, good flavor, and body to this beer as a barleywine should be, a bit sweet at this point in it’s young life, alcohol bomb at 10.2%

Pours a deep ruby red with a small head reminiscent of the foam on a straight espresso. Aroma is apples, alcohol, some hops, and some licorice. Flavor really follows suit with Apples, cherries, brandy, some licorice and a nice little hoppy zing to round it off. I neither love nor dislike this beer. It’s all-right.

Bottle@Home. Aroma of molasses, orange, floral, fruity, hoppy, raisin. Orange/brown colour, small beige head, good lace. Very sweet, very bitter, hoppy, very malty, raisin, chestnuts. Flat, sticky and dry in the finish. Flavourful, just a bit too sweet and off balance in the fruitiness.

Bottle. Pours a deep oxblood with a one finger tan head that leaves great lacing. The nose is fruit and malt. The taste is brown sugar, caramel and sweet dark fruits with some spiked bready yeast in the finish. Medium creamy body. Pretty decent BW.

(35.5cl bottle) Hazy, reddish brown colour with a beige medium-sized foamy head. Sweet and toast-malty aroma with a raisin-fruity touch, lighter notes of caramel and aromatic, spicy hops. Sweet flavour with a tinge of bitterness, full bodied with a calm carbonation. Hearty toasty malty and subtle zesty fruity taste with notes of caramel. Sweet and slightly bitter and toasted finish with a delicate hops character and a present alcohol. Solid and strong but not necessarily an outspoken highlight of its style (22.II.09).
