Commercial Description:
Big malty flavors, including licorice and chocolate, are balanced with a moderate hop profile. Brewed with copious amounts of prized malts and flaked oats, the Barley Wine is so strong that it has to be aged for several months before we can bottle it. Like a fine wine, it will continue to improve with age up to 2 years after bottling (If kept cool).

A- Pours a clear brown hue with creamy, brown head that is mostly diminishing, fair lacing on the glass S- Nose is dominated by dark fruit (raisins, plums), and tones of maple syrup, vanilla, cinnamon, strong alcohol presence T- Initial taste is of cherries and molasses, followed by chocolate/oatmeal/caramel malts, finish has tones of walnuts, vanilla, raspberries in the brief, light finish M- Full-bodied and watery, slightly under carbonated D- Limited drinkability like most Barleywines, the abv is significant and does not lend to extended drinking, but this is definitely a flavorful and complex barleywine that would be a great after-dinner quaff

Very high alcohol taste. Very high. Hard to get past that. Even for a barleywine, I found it a hindrance.

Bottled: Intensive nose, malty, molasse, some fruit and sugar with alcohol. In the end a remarkable fruity aroma hop note. Brown to red color with a small white head. Flavor is malty, medium sweet with some fruity notes. Quite alcoholic, rum plums and a quite intensive bitterness. Dry, bitter finish, roasted malt and bitter hops. Intensive, too alcoholic and a bit unbalanced. Regardless a good beer.

Brown pour with a decent head. kind of a medicinal aroma with a touch of malt. The flavor is licorice and malt in the front then finishes with a slight vanilla, coconut and licorice again. Not bad the alcohol comes out a touch and it slightly bitter. not bad.

Bouteille de 12 oz, vieille d’environ 1 an. Arômes d’alcool, de caramel et de fruits rouges. Robe rouge foncée et claire, faible effervescence. Moyennement ronde en bouche, la bière présente des notes de caramel et de whisky, puis un houblon résineux se manifeste. Finale d’alcool. Intéressant.

Sample at the tasting at From the Vine on 1.30.09. Pours light brown with a medium off-white head. Malty caramel aroma with lots of candy sweetness. Malty caramel flavor with a ton of sugar, some booze and a faint taste of hops.

Bottle pours a muddy brown color with little to no head. Aroma of sweet molasses, pine resin, and burnt sugar. Flavor is sweet and malty but there is a decent hop presence. Some bittnerness in the finish with a slightly syrupy mouthfeel. The 10.2% alcohol is fairly well pronounced.
