Commercial Description:
Big malty flavors, including licorice and chocolate, are balanced with a moderate hop profile. Brewed with copious amounts of prized malts and flaked oats, the Barley Wine is so strong that it has to be aged for several months before we can bottle it. Like a fine wine, it will continue to improve with age up to 2 years after bottling (If kept cool).

Pours red with minimal head. Aroma is malty, with a bit of lager green to it. Flavor isn’t as hoppy as I had hoped for, more malty and Carmel... overall not a bad beer, but I had this right after the stone Guardian... this one pales in comparison.

Pours a two finger cream head that fades slowly, leaving a good lace. Deep mahogany color. Light carbonation and medium-heavy bodied. Raisin nose. Flavor is sweet malty but balanced with hops. Some bitterness at finish. High ABV is hidden. More flavor as it warms up. $1.67 for a 12oz bottle from Capitol Convenience (now Barb’s Beer Emporium) Concord, NH.

Pours dark malty brown with almost no head. Very malty aroma with a hint dried fruit, brown sugar, and caramel malt . Taste is smooth and malty with just a hint of roasted malt and maybe a little bit of the hops. The malt hides some of the hops, but you get a little of the hop bitterness in the finish. Definitely a very malt driven barley wine and will be interesting with some aging.

pours a hazy orangish-copper colour. Aroma is slightly boozy, slightly anise, some caramel and darker fruit. Flavour is caramel, raisin, date, almost astringent spicy alc lingers a bit.

Bottle from De Bierkoning, @ home. Cloudy reddish brown colour, creamy diminishing off-white head. Aroma of alcohol and lots of dark fruits. Flavour is chocolate, caramel, dark fruits, malts and alcohol. Alcoholic and sweet finish. Not as fullbodied as expected, but a nice sipper nevertheless.

Poured a reddish brown color with an off white head. Aroma was dark fruits, some spices, lots of maltiness, and the alcohol is definately there as well. Flavor was extremely sweet, notes of fruits and some caramel/light chocolate notes, not too much bitterness, but a really strong alcohol warming in the finish.

355ml bottle bought at SuperBest in Valby. Cool label logo. Pours a deep, red-brown body under a thin, off-white head. Firm malty to the nose. Has also got a malty taste profile with caramel notes and alcohol beneath. Vague bitter endnote. Flat carbonation. Alright, but a rather monotonous Barley Wine (Tromsų, 14.10.2008).

Vintage 07F - Popped the top on this bottle and got a dark amber, roasted malty brown pour with minimal off-white colored head, leaving lingering tan lacings on the glass that linger for long after the glass has been emptied. Heavy aroma of malted flowery hoppiness, but easy on the bitterness that would be expected with such a strong brew (with 10.2% ALC/VOL). Initial flavor of sweet wine, but dimimishes with the slight bitter hoppy-fruity finish. This one is much more palatable than the smoky, oak-aged brews I’ve recently sampled and will keep a few of these around for future sampling!
