abcfan (244), New Jersey, USA Sep 3, 2008 This is probably my least favorite style, but this is tolerable. Aroma is dark fruit, molasses, caramel and BOOZE. Very smooth malty taste on the tongue with little carbonation. Very dry biting finish. Decent overall for the style. Plimmer (251), Frederiksberg, Denmark Sep 1, 2008 Bottle 35,5cl. Brown/orange and slightly hazy body with a small fast of white head. Sweet caramel, hops and alcohol in the nose. Fat full body dominated by caramel and alcohol. Alcohol dominates the finish but in a nice warm way along with some hops. charlotte (1996), Vanløse, Denmark Sep 1, 2008 Amber colour with no head.Strong vinous aroma and taste of berries and caramel, feels warming with medium body and long dry finish. SuperDave70 (1157), Beautiful Sunny Mesa, Arizona, USA Aug 31, 2008 Dark brown pour with a thin fizzy tan head. Aroma of alcohol, dark beyond-ripe fruit, and raisins. Flavor is malt, raisin puree and alcohol. Not a good barley wine, in my humble opinion. scoth (266), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA Aug 29, 2008 Bottle labeld VINTAGE07BB.
Pours dark brown, and cludy with a thin head and a little bit of lacing. Very malty aroma, smells a little like figs. The alchohol smell is strong. Thick and slightly sticky body. Sweet tasting and malty up front, with hints of fig, rasins, and molasses. There are some citrus tasting hops, but they are very understated in the flavor, though there is some bitterness. Most of the flavor really waits to jump out until the after taste. RichardGretton (3128), Leicestershire, England Aug 25, 2008 Bottle. Dark reddish brown beer. The aroma is deeply malty and rich and the flavour is rich, vinous and malty. Overall a good strong beer. lemasney (398), Trenton, New Jersey, USA Aug 23, 2008 Aroma is sweet and chemical. Deep ruby body with thin off white head and no lacing. Taste is dark, roasted, thinner than expected. Something in the finish is off. Texture is like a scouring pad. Not very smooth or luxurious like many other BWSA’s. A shame really. Not sweet at all, which is a relief, but the chemical flavor is very present. leeburg (146), Juneau, Alaska, USA Aug 21, 2008 Murky brown/amber out of the bottle, nice frothy but ephemeral head. Aroma of a green caramel apple. Malty cocoa and dark fruit flavors, unmasked alcohol and a somewhat oily finish. With a good number of phenomenal barleywines out there, this one doesn’t quite measure up, but isn’t entirely unenjoyable either.
