Commercial Description:
Big malty flavors, including licorice and chocolate, are balanced with a moderate hop profile. Brewed with copious amounts of prized malts and flaked oats, the Barley Wine is so strong that it has to be aged for several months before we can bottle it. Like a fine wine, it will continue to improve with age up to 2 years after bottling (If kept cool).

Pours a murky maroon color with a small head that leaves almost no lacing. Nose of nuts and dark fruit. Flavor of apple, pear, berries, wood, and nuts. Hints of alcohol, but it’s pretty well hidden. Dry fruity finish. Not at all bad. Something strikes me a little bit "funny" about the nose and taste. Can’t quite put my finger on it.

Dark burgundy amber with a small unimpressive head that disappears quickly. Aroma is muted but it has some chocolate and roasted malt. Flavor is the same but more prominent than the aroma. Mildly warm in the throat. Decent.

Bottle pour. Pours a weird hazy dark orange/red/brown color with a light brown head that doesn’t stick too much. A light malt/chocolate/roasty aroma mixed with some banana, red wine, licorice, and alcohol. Moderate sweet flavor and light bitterness with a dash of alcohol on the throat. Longer finish that I would have liked. The bitterness hides then shows up with a spark.

Bottle. Pours a dingy brown with a small head and sweet and fruity aromas. Flavor is decent but alcohol gives a bit of a zing that can be obnoxious. Dark fruit flavors, toffee malt and a peppery hops finish...

Red-brown beer, full of small UFO’s with an amber-cream head, leaving impressive lacerings. Very fruity, sweet-grainy & alcohol nose. Fruit on alcohol, like oranges or so in a real sangria , but more syrupy. Very rich fruity-cake taste, alcohol (with its additional sweetness) obvious. Wry prunes, discreet but present hops. Old, madeirisated winerest. Thick, alcoholwarming, rich voluptuous MF. Excellent, if not blasting B.W. Among the best of Flying Dog.
