Commercial Description:
Big malty flavors, including licorice and chocolate, are balanced with a moderate hop profile. Brewed with copious amounts of prized malts and flaked oats, the Barley Wine is so strong that it has to be aged for several months before we can bottle it. Like a fine wine, it will continue to improve with age up to 2 years after bottling (If kept cool).

Red-brown beer, full of small UFO’s with an amber-cream head, leaving impressive lacerings. Very fruity, sweet-grainy & alcohol nose. Fruit on alcohol, like oranges or so in a real sangria , but more syrupy. Very rich fruity-cake taste, alcohol (with its additional sweetness) obvious. Wry prunes, discreet but present hops. Old, madeirisated winerest. Thick, alcoholwarming, rich voluptuous MF. Excellent, if not blasting B.W. Among the best of Flying Dog.

Interesting beer. An almost syrup like taste loaded with complexity - caramel, toffee, maple, currants. aroma is almost all malt and it really seems to be underhopped for the style but I guess I like it, many barley wines are so hopped that you can’t taste the complexities in the flavor profile as well as you can this one.

12oz bottle. Pours a dark copper in color with brown head. Aroma is sweet and malty. Taste malt, molasses and licorice (which is not my favor taste) with dry finish.

Bottle--vintage 2007. Dark red pour with thin tan head. Sugary, caramel aroma with slight hop notes. Solid maltiness with toffee flavor. Alcohol adds to aroma about mid-glass. Not overpowering but slight bitterness at finish. Good barleywine style from Flying Dog.

(Bottle at Pikkulintu on 2008-06-04) Deep potr wine red colour. Very small tan-coloured head. Black currant and malts in nose. Full sugary palate. Dried plum, caramell and liquorice in taste. Slight bitterness in aftertaste. I liked this one.

Bottle. Aroma of powerful hops and caramel in a Stone-like mix, with berry, toffee, grapefruit, and a whiff of alcohol. Plum and molasses. Essentially opaque brown pour with a light brown head. Bitingly hoppy taste, very sweet and boozy with light fumes, not quite cloying. Big caramel and toffee really set in and entrench themselves around the teeth. Big grape and plum with molasses. Woody, oaky notes, and an actual semblance of balance between the heavy, syrupy crystal malt and the hops. Full body and a kick in the teeth. Tongue-numbing. Dry, nearly-nutty aftertaste. Better than expected - not fit for the top shelf, but still a pretty good dessert BW.

Botle. Pours a dark amber colour with an tan head. Aroma is fruity with notes of cascade hops. The flavour is quite salty with notes of caramel, grapefruit and alcohol. Bitter finish. An OK BW.

12oz. Bottle: Sweet aroma. Smalls of malts, dark fruits, citrusy hops, alcohol, and caramel. Poured dark amber/ruby in color with a large light brown head that lasted throughout. Cloudy. Full of medium-sized particles. Flavor is medium sweet and lightly bitter. Tastes of roasted malts, caramel, hops, and some dark fruits. Full body. Thick, mouth-coating texture. Soft carbonation. Sweet malty finish with a hint of citrus hops.
