Mar 28, 2008 Bottle (35 cl) at Bishops Arms, Avenyn, Göteborg, Sweden. Deep amber to copper, almost no head. Malty and biscuity, dark fruits and some cherries. Heavy body and soft mouthfeel, low carbonation. Good balance with a gentle bitterness. Ok, but pretty bland for a Barley Wine.

Mar 27, 2008 Strong, but mild barley aroma with caramel. Pours dark almost black with little carbonation and a 1.5 inch tan head. Laces the glass well. Flavor is really good. Strong but mild. Taste is sweet, with malt, a little sugar, and a tinge of alcohol, but it’s barely noticable. Remarkabley flavorful, slightly sweet, and smooth. Forgiving, slightly warming, finish.

Mar 27, 2008 2008 bottle. Pours out pretty thick with very minimal head. It’s on the darker side of the amber color spectrum. Aroma of sweet unfermented malt. Taste is pretty good, sweetness balanced with a clean alcohol note. Not much in the way of hop aroma or flavor in this brew. Emphasis is placed on the malt. Overall it’s not bad, nothing stellar, but a pretty good English example of a barley wine.

Mar 27, 2008 Bottle. Pours a deep amber with a small light tan head. Aroma of dark fruit, toffee, alcohol, and caramel. Taste is the same as aroma. Medium full mouthfeel with a moderate amount of bitterness and slightly warm alcohol. Very good.

Mar 26, 2008 Updated: Mar 27, 200812 oz bottle, 2006 vintage - poured a deep, deep roan with a decent sized off-white head that leaves nice lace. Aroma filled with dark fruit - prune, brown sugar, grapes, some alcohol, and a faint hop presence. Flavour is very round in the mouth - a year of aging has done this beer very well, and there is some alcohol present, but it is warming at the back of the throat, rather than the sharp burn of a young barley wine. Nicely integrated flavours, although it becomes a bit too sweet as it warms. Good beer, not great.

Mar 23, 2008 Bottle. Poured a medium red body with thin head. Aroma is caramel, pale malt. Flavor is light caramel, malty body and very sweet. Light fruit noted.

Mar 20, 2008 fragrant smelling, a bit like fresh bread, the taste is a bit alcoholic but not overpowering in anyway. The taste of hops and malt are balanced out by the slight alcohol taste. I haven’t had too many barley wines but I like this one. Would buy again
