oh6gdx (8798), Vasa, Finland Feb 23, 2008 Bottled. Deep rubyish brown colour with small head. Aroma is sweet malts, alcohol and some fruityness along with it. Flavour is alcohol, dark fruits, sweet malts as well as some fruity hops. Quite wellbalanced, even though the alcohol tends to come through a bit much. Goodgrief (1144), Middletown, Delaware, USA Feb 19, 2008 Apr. 2007 - Dark pour, no head or lacing. A sour fruity aroma which was not pleasant. Sickly sweet malty sugary, cherry-like flavor. Very thin bodied, yet not smooth. Pretty bad. swoopjones (1862), Buffalo, New York, USA Feb 18, 2008 Sample @ Coles Barleywine Tasting Buffalo NY. Sweet molasses & light alcohol aroma. Light to medium cola color. Light body with sweet warming finish JMFG (1514), Florida, USA Feb 18, 2008 Bottle. Nice-looking rich dark reddish-brown pour, thin persistent khaki head. Aroma is a mix of caramel malts and light floral hops. Lighly carbonated. Mix of sweetness and hops right up front, mild hops linger through the finish. The alcohol isn’t overpowering, but the taste seems kind of mixed up, and it seems to knock this one down a notch. chokmah33 (115), Bremerton, Washington, USA Feb 17, 2008 Updated: Apr 1, 2008mahogany color.
Aroma: Faint but clean chocolate and fruit.
Taste: Sweet pear, licorice + hops followed by earth carmely malt mid finishing with sweet sticky grogy alchohol chest warming goodness. docsteigs (139), USA Feb 17, 2008 Pours dark but clear dark red-brown. Smells of sweets. Tastes thick but well balanced; nice mix of malt/spice/alcohol flavors. Maybe better if I waited a year - but I’ll but some away for that too! Otje (668), Leiden, Netherlands Feb 14, 2008 Amber to brown beer, no head(poured to cold). Fruity and sweet malty aromas. Fruity, licorice, hoppy and roasted taste with some coffee and chocolate near the finish. Fruity, sweet and bitter, alcoholic finish. Nice barley wine, but i’ve had better ones.
