Ugly dark brown color and lack of head detract from the appearance, but the beer is well-balanced with a bit of fruity sweetness in the finish. I’m going to go buy more of this. Very little lacing or tracers. Strong malt taste, a little hoppiness but then alcohol comes through. It dissapates rather quicly. Not bitter.Smooth after taste. I’ll hide a bottle and see how it ages out.
A good barleywine style ale, I would recommend to others amc3000 (46), houston, Texas, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 23, 2008 Bottled. Deep rubyish brown colour with small head. Aroma is sweet malts, alcohol and some fruityness along with it. Flavour is alcohol, dark fruits, sweet malts as well as some fruity hops. Quite wellbalanced, even though the alcohol tends to come through a bit much. Goodgrief (1148), Middletown, Delaware, USA

Sickly sweet malty sugary, cherry-like flavor. Very thin bodied, yet not smooth. Pretty bad. swoopjones (1896), Buffalo, New York, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 18, 2008 Bottle. Nice-looking rich dark reddish-brown pour, thin persistent khaki head. Aroma is a mix of caramel malts and light floral hops. Lighly carbonated. Mix of sweetness and hops right up front, mild hops linger through the finish. The alcohol isn’t overpowering, but the taste seems kind of mixed up, and it seems to knock this one down a notch. chokmah33 (118), San Luis Obispo, California, USA
