yespr (11613), Copenhagen O, Denmark Feb 9, 2008 12 fl oz bottle. Pours deep dark red with a creamy tan head. Smooth barley aroma, mild chocolate note. Flavour is smooth caramel malty, a little liqourice hops edge, smooth chocolate and a nice alcohol warmth. Ends with a nice level of bitterness, warming alcohol and smooth chocolate/caramel malt. Grovlam (3790), Copenhagen, Denmark Feb 8, 2008 Bottle.[Tasting session @ yespr, thanks for a great evening Jesper] Average thick beige and creamy head that mostly diminished. Fair display of lacework. Mahogany colour. Nice and complex aroma of bread, grain, caramel and lots of dried fruit and vinous feel over this beer. Almost a light sweet chocolate at the very end. Very full bodied with a soft carbonation and thick and light alcoholic texture. Moderated to heavy sweet flavour with light notes of bitterness. Lingering malty sweet finish. Nice and smooth Barley Wine. Davinci (295), Chicago, Illinois, USA Feb 7, 2008 Updated: Mar 22, 2008Pours an almost black ruby red with little head. Smells of rich dark fruits and cotton candy sugars . Starts with dark fruit sweetness. Chocolate dipped cherries and brandy flavors are rounded out by subtle citrus rind bitterness. A bit of alcohol tingle finishes this pleasant brew out. Definately saving a few bottles for the years to come. I have a feeling this will age well. AmEricanbrew (1747), Louisiana, USA Feb 7, 2008 Murky mahogany with a thin tan head. Nice mildly sweet caramel smell. Full bodied with a super smooth mouthfeel. Malt driven taste has a just right cotton candy sweetness. Hop are noticable only in their absence. An American bw that doesn’t choke you with hops. You gotta love it. 51706 djd07 (721), Houston, Texas, USA Feb 6, 2008 Bottle. Pours a very dark brown with a bubbly medium light tan head. The aroma is fruit and alcohol. Decent lacing on the glass. The taste is a sweet malt and fruit with a long dry finish. A good barleywine from Flying Dog. rustbucket0873 (145), Krikville, New York, USA Feb 6, 2008 Pours a dark brown with a decenent head. aroma is fruits. the flavor is sweet and malty. its really thick. To thick for me jde123 (715), Washington, Washington DC, USA Feb 3, 2008 Bottle, pours dark brown with a moderate beige head. Aroma and flavor are sweet, a little too sweet for a barleywine, in my opinion. Had that quality about it that leaves the glass very sticky by the end of the experience. For that reason alone, I don’t think I could recommend this beer as a good selection. RblWthACoz (963), Brooklyn, New York, USA Feb 2, 2008 Pours a very dark brown. Tan head. Nose is like juicy raisins and cotton candy. Strong firm sugar candy-like tones rule here. Flavor is sticky sweet. Just screams sugar in your mouth. Molasses and anise character really sticks out. Feel is thick and full at first, but it falls off very quickly. I kind of feel like this one needs a lot more time to relax and mature in the bottle. Seems too much a kick in the mouth and not enough style and grace.
