Commercial Description:
Big malty flavors, including licorice and chocolate, are balanced with a moderate hop profile. Brewed with copious amounts of prized malts and flaked oats, the Barley Wine is so strong that it has to be aged for several months before we can bottle it. Like a fine wine, it will continue to improve with age up to 2 years after bottling (If kept cool).

This would be an incredible beer if I were into fruitier maltier beers. It was stuck in what I thought was a four pack of Double Dog, so I figured why not give it a try. Great color dark brownish with a good head that stuck around. Very plummy, fruity taste with a slight hint of grape. I could taste the alchohol in this bad boy. Great mouthfeel very full bodied. I’m a hop head so it missed the mark for me overall.

Pours a dark brownish color with a marginal head. Aroma of ripe dark fruits. Plums, dates, currants, grapes, and perhaps a touch of sweet roasted malt. Sweet and hot. Notes of fruit come through with a small amount of roast and perhaps a mild bit of candied malt. Thick and sweet. I like hoppier BW’s. I like the ABV, but it might be a bit too sweet. Oh well.

Pours a very dak color that looks like red velvet chocolate. Small off white head that quickly turns into a little bit of soap on the surface and a nice conssitant ring around the glass. Nose is figs, fruit, raisens, Malt and maybe some alcohol. Mouth feel is medium thickness and has a very soft finish. Taste is malty and of belgian sugar. This is almost like a BW belgian ale hybrid. Intersting but a bit unbalanced in the taste. Nice though.

Very maltly..with hints of chocolate, biscuit, oat, some dark fruit sweetness in both aroma and palate. Not too much in terms of hops....which makes for a slightly weaker barley wine in flavor, but this is still a decent beer by far.

Pours to a coffee brown color. Bits of sediment in the glass. Aroma of alcohol and anise. Big taste with strong alcohol notes. Other tastes include toffee or caramel, perhaps some dry fruit. Thick mouthfeel. A good amount of alcohol on the lasting finish. A pretty pungent libation; perhaps a bit too much alcohol flavor for me.Overall, not bad, and pretty inexpensive for a barley wine.

12oz, no date. Clear deep ruby brown with some floaties and a short-lived beige head. It’s been a while since I’ve had one of these, and Duane helped me out with this. Smells better than I remembered. Plenty of raisins, toffee, and anise (to a lesser extent) to go around. Alcohol is not even trying to hide, and the spice element I’m picking up might be the alcohol, but I can’t tell. There is also a dry wood characteristic in there. Flavor continues with hints of tobacco. Raisins and scorched caramel dominate, though there is still the snise and dry wood. Light tart cherries emerge as this warms, getting a little more vinous as well. Finish is semi dry with bitterness peaking at a 3 that lingers a bit. Full body with light carbonation. Pleasant surprise--much better than I remember it.
