beerhandy (195), Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA Jan 5, 2008 Nice amber malty english style barley wine , sweet caramel and alcohol ,a little rough in the finish (grainy astringency ) but after two who cares, perfect for cold nights and bonfires gsmitty80 (628), Washington DC, USA Jan 5, 2008 This was a good beer, but a little bit too much licorice taste for me. Flying do makes another mediocre beer. elnadeau (786), Laguna Niguel, California, USA Jan 2, 2008 Aroma is caramel sweet, hops & alcohol. A decent BW but a bit too much residual sweetness is on the cloying side. I think this one needs more cellar time. CaptBier (301), Birmingham, Alabama, USA Jan 1, 2008 Bottle. A hazy red beer with a thin beige head. The aroma has strong notes of caramel, but also light notes of hops. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of caramel, but also alcohol, and lesser notes of wood. 5000 (2409), Hardened Liver, Washington, USA Jan 1, 2008 Bottle: Deep caramel, burnt, nearly brown, moderate foamy light beige head, spotty lacing.   Sweet malty nose, some notes of dark
pitted fruit, graham cracker, and alcohol.   Fairly decent malt sweetness up front, raisin, fig, and dates are all present.   Hop
bitterness is actually quite low, as compared to the malts.   Quite warming.   While the alcohol is noticeable on the nose, it does
not come across as being alcoholic on the tongue.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate to full.   Semi-sweet malt finish, strong raisin,
fig, and date, with a slight alcohol burn that lingers.   Better than I remembered, and certainly not as hoppy/green as I thought it
would be.   Not bad!
hammerbeck (101), Kentucky, USA Dec 28, 2007 Undrinkable. I’m supposed to stretch this out to 75 characters, but there’s not much else I can say beyond "bad." Nasty, thick, alcholically too hot, acidic. Storm (2685), Amager, Denmark Dec 27, 2007 35,5 cl bottle. Dark brown colour with a little head. Sweet malty aroma with hints of raisins. Great flavour of sweet malt, burned caramel, littlebitter and a nice warming finish from the alcohol, very intense and very nice endeed. BelgianBeerGal (1276), Sabbatical in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Dec 26, 2007 Updated: May 27, 2008Bottled. Dark brown colour, not quite opaque, with ruby highlights. Small, creamy tan head and sticky lacing. Aroma is clean with malt and molassas. Flavour is licorice, molasses and dried fruit. The 10.5 ABV is well hidden.
