Commercial Description:
Big malty flavors, including licorice and chocolate, are balanced with a moderate hop profile. Brewed with copious amounts of prized malts and flaked oats, the Barley Wine is so strong that it has to be aged for several months before we can bottle it. Like a fine wine, it will continue to improve with age up to 2 years after bottling (If kept cool).

12oz, no date. Clear deep ruby brown with some floaties and a short-lived beige head. It’s been a while since I’ve had one of these, and Duane helped me out with this. Smells better than I remembered. Plenty of raisins, toffee, and anise (to a lesser extent) to go around. Alcohol is not even trying to hide, and the spice element I’m picking up might be the alcohol, but I can’t tell. There is also a dry wood characteristic in there. Flavor continues with hints of tobacco. Raisins and scorched caramel dominate, though there is still the snise and dry wood. Light tart cherries emerge as this warms, getting a little more vinous as well. Finish is semi dry with bitterness peaking at a 3 that lingers a bit. Full body with light carbonation. Pleasant surprise--much better than I remember it.

I thought this was a great beer. Aroma of fruit, grain, and a wine like character. Taste hid alcohol quite well. Mouthfeel was full bodied with tastes of carmel and oats. Would buy again. Should rate higher than an 84 however it was a bit sticky.

Very dark purple almost black pour, medium white head that stays and leaves lots of lacing. Aroma is dark fruits, raisens, caramel, booze. Flavor is very nice and complex, caramel, licorice, chocolate, raisens. Sweet upfront with some roasted character in the fore and a smokey sugary finish. Almost like an Old Ale I’m really surprised I finally tried this. Thick cloying mouthfeel with lots of carbonation is just perfect. Really just a complex brew of dark fruits, sugars, roasted malts and the alcohol is never noticeable.

Poured a dark brown color with small off-white head that disappeared in a hurry. Aroma is of yeast, dark fruit (figs, raisins), and caramel. Taste is pretty much the same. I thought this was decent, but nothing spectacular. Mouthfeel was good. Actually hides the alcohol pretty well, because I didn’t realize it was 10.5%.

Nice amber malty english style barley wine , sweet caramel and alcohol ,a little rough in the finish (grainy astringency ) but after two who cares, perfect for cold nights and bonfires

This was a good beer, but a little bit too much licorice taste for me. Flying do makes another mediocre beer.

Aroma is caramel sweet, hops & alcohol. A decent BW but a bit too much residual sweetness is on the cloying side. I think this one needs more cellar time.

Bottle. A hazy red beer with a thin beige head. The aroma has strong notes of caramel, but also light notes of hops. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of caramel, but also alcohol, and lesser notes of wood.
