Commercial Description:
Big malty flavors, including licorice and chocolate, are balanced with a moderate hop profile. Brewed with copious amounts of prized malts and flaked oats, the Barley Wine is so strong that it has to be aged for several months before we can bottle it. Like a fine wine, it will continue to improve with age up to 2 years after bottling (If kept cool).

Lots of malt! Pours a slightly purple brown/ruby into the glass with little-to-no head. Aroma is fruity and malty. Delicious taste, malt, caramel, and a little chocolate and berry. 12 oz. bottle.

Try two at this rating, as try #1 resulted in me walking back into the kitchen to find my Golden Retriever happily lapping it up. She gave it a 5. Anyways, pours a murky reddish brown color with a very, very thin off-white head. Aroma is very sweet, malty, with lots and lots of dark fruit. Flavor is malty (particularly caramel) and has some fruit, brown sugar, and very, very sweet. Something at the end is sort of odd...gets bitter, but its a strange bitter...not quite sure where this one is going! Light carbonation on the palate, and, unlike the FD Gonzo, you can sure notice the alcohol content in this one. This one isn’t one to run back to, though I think some age would help lessen the brashness of this beer and it would benefit greatly...

Bottle. Pours dark brown with amber highlights. No head but some carbonation is visible rising from the bottom of the glass. Aroma is candied raisins and sugar with a big dose of alcohol. The taste is very bold and upfront with sweetness and a nasty out of balance hops and alcohol lashing at the end. I love big beers but this ones flavor profile seems totally out of whack. I probably should have let it age for awhile. The mouthfeel is exceptional. Nice and smooth and creamy with a great coating effect. Not a barley wine I will buy again.

Aroma: caramel, and candied sweetness, little bit of hops, moderate alcohol. Taste is pretty good, but a little to sticky sweet. Finishes with a moderate amount of alcohol at first, but then leaves a very nice lingering dry sweetness. Overall, a bit one-sided and boring, but still not bad.

Another big thanks to Shigadeyo for trading this to me. Pours dark copper/brown with a small light tan head. Aroma is ripened fruits, caramel malts. Flavor is very sweet fruits and sugary malts. Also a little boozy pine. Mouthfeel is very rich and the finish is slightly bitter. Thanks Craig.

Red mahogany with a huge, creamy head. The aroma is slightly perfumed with notes of caramel, hops/fruit, candy sugar and raisin. The flavour has sweetness, notes of burnt caramel, candy sugar, fruits, figs, raisins, grapefruit and a dry, light bitterness.

Pours a murky dark brown colour with a small creamy tan head. Nose of dark fruits, raisins, sweet malts and alcohol. Initial taste of dark fruits, sweet malts and caramel. Moving into a soft cocoa powder and bitter hops that balance well. Dry chalky finish. Mild sticky mouthfeel. From the aroma was expecting a large alcohol presence which in turn was well masked. Palate duration is above average. Some head retention and lacing of the glass. Medium Body. Good Stuff.

Bottle, bought @ Ølbutikken, Cph. Pours a very deep dark brownish red - without light behind it, it looks positively black. A nice, staying creamy off white head with good lacing. Aroma is sweet, lots of dried fruits, chocolate and Belgian sugars. Extremely creamy mouthfeel, low carbonation. Flavour is powerful, lots of sweetness with a terrific amount of caramel, roasted malts, chocolate. Lots of viniousness, but never alcoholic. This is really a nice BW.
