douglas88 (1555), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA Dec 7, 2007 Bottle from Ty. Pours a dark ruby with a small thin head. The aroma is sweet and light. The taste is great: grapes, raisin, some chocolate and assorted sweets, and some small hops and malt flavors. Really nice, like a wine, but with beer greatness. The alcohol is really subdued. Overall, a great beer. cstuartj (305), Washington, USA Dec 7, 2007 Pours very dark, like a dark porter with a small dense coffee coloured head. Nose is sweet, thick with malts and alcohol overtones. Attack is bitters mixed with sweet and carmels. No hints of hops anywhere. Finish is smooth and long. Pretty good take on a barely wine. Collint (450), Sylva, North Carolina, USA Dec 6, 2007 12/06/07 12 oz bottle. Poured very dark yet still some color of deep amber. Head is offwhite purple and taste like wine and grapes. Needs to age, even though a great barley wine. TikiE (360), Sylva, North Carolina, USA Dec 6, 2007 Updated: Jan 1, 2008This is one of my favorite barley wines. Pours smooth with small head and it looks a blackish purple, looks like coke. Tastes sweet, but basically tastes like it should be a manly wine. danhitch (17), USA Dec 1, 2007 Bottle: Poured a deep amber, almost purple with an off-white head. Aroma was licorice and red wine. Taste was slightly cola like with grape and brown sugar as well, and a little bit of a hoppy tang to it. Overall it was a bit on the sweet side but not terrible. themadmumis (344), Westminster, Maryland, USA Nov 26, 2007 Relatively strong overall... from malts to spiciness to alcohol content. Slightly above average Barleywine. Not too oily going down; decently rounded. Not bad. alexsdad06 (1055), Ohio, USA Nov 24, 2007 Sample from a bottle shared by Tmoney99 at the Cinciy gathering. Pours a hazy brown color with a small beige head. The aroma is heavy caramel malt, dark fruits, missing the hops. The flavor is much of the same with sweet caramel malts and dark fruits dominating. There is a noticeable alcohol presence but not too distracting. Medium/full mouthfeel and smooth. KAF (441), Coralville, Iowa, USA Nov 24, 2007 The first time I had this I accidentally froze it and did not allow it to thaw out completely before drinking it and thought it was great. This time however it was not as good. Dark reddish in pour without much head. A bit of dark fruit and malt. Sweet flavor with a hint of alcohol.
