madsberg (4873), Søborg, Denmark Oct 12, 2007 Bottled. Dark brownish red coloured. Huge brown dense head. Aroma is quite bready and sweet. Has caramel notes and some ripe fruits like raisins and dades. A bit liqourice and alcohol notable. Flavour has some herbal notes. Is full fo liqourice and ripe fruits. A bit soapy. Has a light alcohol bite and a tad of a harsh note. Is medium bodied. Has some caramel and fruits in the end. Sweet and syrupy. Nice without standing out compared to other barley wines I’ve tried. adrian910ss (1395), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 11, 2007 Pours a semi clear amber mahogany with a small beige head. Sweet malty aroma with hints of licorice and syrupy fruit punch. Taste is malty sweet with hints of cotton candy, hops and molasses. Very good. Holds up well after a few years in the cellar. clong83 (243), San Diego, California, USA Oct 8, 2007 Whoa. Alcohol flavor up front, but dissipates quickly. Very spicy, hints of anise. VERY malty nose and flavor, but some nice hops flavor that was a bit unexpected. The hops were unpresent at all in the nose... Otherwise a thick and syrupy brew with a bunch of good flavors. Nice level of carbonation, good tan head. A definite must try. thebeertourist (2751), Oslo, Norway Oct 7, 2007 Bottle. Mahogny with a good tan head. Potent raisins and nuts aroma. Good raisins, chocolate and nutty flavours- and caramel for sure. Not very hoppy and the alcohol is well-hidden. Full-bodied and soft without being sirupy. A hit-but then what would you expect from his brewer? carboloader (318), Houston, Texas, USA Oct 5, 2007 Pours ruby brown, medium sized tan head dissipates quickly. Lots of floaters. Smells deliciously sweet and big. Eek. Flavor is too syrupy for me. Molasses, caramel, too sweet for my taste. Hops seem lost in the sweet malt finish. Call me stupid, but I prefer a Sierra Nevada Bigfoot to this. Dough77 (771), Aurora, Illinois, USA Oct 5, 2007 Very solid barleywine, flying dog is really moving up my list. Pours a dark amber with a little off white bubbly head. Nose big on dark malts, notes of chocolate and bigger on hop than expected. Flavor included dark fruits and really nice malt. Also sweet caramel blends in adding a nice touch. tenghave (402), Taastrup, Denmark Oct 5, 2007 Dyb brun øl.
Duft viniøs, let karamel, malt
Smag: Malt, tung, meget humlet, frisk, lakrids, meget fyldig.
Skal drikkes kold
Super øl, der minder om en kombination af en classic Barle, men med mere hume og let stout i.
Alcohollen bemærkes ikke - øllen er simpelt hen for lækker.
Smagen er næsten perfekt. fro2218 (466), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Oct 3, 2007 Brownish red in color. Lacy tan head. Viscous and malty. Sweet and not too hoppy. Should age fairly well.
