mirjukka (695), LOHJA, Finland Jul 31, 2009 bottle 355 ml EXP 15.04.10 amber rich dried fruits dash of green apple and loads of hops Full body bit sticky mouth feell. I was bit confused at first sipping bit too cold over hopped dose. Taste is better near room temperature. tennessejed420 (69), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Jul 31, 2009 12 oz. bottle. Pours deep mahagony / amber color with slightly tan head that is small and vanishes quickly. Very aromatic, with hints of licorice, alcohol, cherry. Tastes indeed like licorice with slight hints of chocolate, still tasting cherries, alcohol detectable. Syrupy. Overall not my favorite barleywine but very good nonetheless. Finland.
Dark amber colour with medium-size tan head. Sweet caramel, hops, roasted malts and some alcohol in aroma. Warming alcohol in flavour. Soft sweet hoppy flavour with some bitterness. Not much of an aftertaste. Smooth. TampaBrew (728), Tampa, Florida, USA Jul 26, 2009 7 oz bottle. Pours a deep amber. Nose is sweet malts, pine and citrus hops, cocoa and oatmeal. Flavor is a smooth blend of mild hops, sweet malts, booze and toasted grains. RHeastings (380), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 19, 2009 Enjoyed via a 12oz bottle in a pub glass. The beer pours a dark brown with an off-white head. The nose brings English crystal malts, potentially 80 and 120, along with perhaps a touch of Maris Otter base notes. Hops come into to balance the palate, but my sample seemed to be well-aged, and showed a definite tendency toward maltyness. The palate is nicely full and inviting, without being cloying. The finish was a touch sweet, as expected, but carried no notes of alcohol. A nicely done barley wine. stchloe (473), Portland, Oregon, USA Jul 16, 2009 Don’t get me wrong this is a really good beer. It left me satisfied and reeling. But really I am not the biggest fan of this style. Like other barleywine the sweet malt body was overpowering, the high abv was not complimentary, and while good to get lit I wouldn’t seek the style out. I’d rather have a ridiculously strong IPA or stout.
