Commercial Description:
Big malty flavors, including licorice and chocolate, are balanced with a moderate hop profile. Brewed with copious amounts of prized malts and flaked oats, the Barley Wine is so strong that it has to be aged for several months before we can bottle it. Like a fine wine, it will continue to improve with age up to 2 years after bottling (If kept cool).

A lot lighter (body) and more dry than I’d expect from a barleywine. Didnt taste very fresh, curious to try it on tap.

Sampled from 12 fl oz bottle courtesy of Marsiblursi. Red-brown color, tan head. Lots of alcohol in the scent. Malty and sweet, spicy. Taste is fresh spicy and a bit fruity, with "classic Barley Wine" taste as well. Big mouthfeel. Feeling of warming alcohol.

Pour is dark amber/light brown with a fading head. Aroma is pure sweet caramel malt with only a hint of hops. Flavor is almost cloyingly sweet with touches of caramel, honey and a hint of chocoate malt. Not enough hops in this barleywine for my liking.

355ml bottle (Pikkulintu, Helsinki, Bitter and Sour 2008)
Very dark red, almost no head. Very pleasant sweet aroma - fruity: figs, plum and raisin. Big thick and sticky presence on the tongue, some bitter tangs of alcohol immediately noticeable, but not offensive. Very full-bodied taste - plenty of grains and husks, and sweet heady alcohol wafting up the nose. Sticky tar. Slightly fizzy on the tongue, and made me burp my previous lambic! Some piney hops too. Solid, but a little too harsh to really excel. Should buy a bottle and cellar for 2 years for a rerate.

Bottle from Beers of Europe, consumed 20-12-09 Pours murky puddle brown with an off-white head that soon departs. Some vanilla on the nose, plenty of oomph from the alcohol on both nose and in mouth. Its a touch sticky, and is a big bolshy barley wine, nice stuff though. A7 A4 F7 P4 Ov14 3.6

Bottled. Muddy, dark amber. Small, beige head. Very sweet and malty aroma. Sweet fruits, nuts and hops. Thick and oily palate. Loads of sweet fruits; apricots, raisins, figs. Warm, alco-feel.
