Commercial Description:
Big malty flavors, including licorice and chocolate, are balanced with a moderate hop profile. Brewed with copious amounts of prized malts and flaked oats, the Barley Wine is so strong that it has to be aged for several months before we can bottle it. Like a fine wine, it will continue to improve with age up to 2 years after bottling (If kept cool).

Bottle poured a clear mahogany wiyh a small, but lasting amber head. Aromas of dark fruit [plums, raisins], toffee, and a hint of vanilla. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of dark fruit, molasses, and a hint of cocoa with a smooth lingering finish.

Dark brown with a very thin tan head. Caramel and malty aromas with a licorice and hop nose. Buttery malt and caramel flavors with a dry licorice end. Warm and dry palate.

Has a smoky malt/raisen taste. Poured almost totally flat with a very small head, Taste of dried fruit is very smooth indeed. The finish is a bit watery for my taste.

Bottle. Pours a murky dark reddish-brown with a spare light-brown head. Aroma of sweet malt, caramel, light hops, brown sugar and alcohol. Flavour follows the aroma but with a touch more hops. Malty sweet with a bitter aftertaste. I was surprised when I saw it was 10.5% because I honestly couldn’t taste it -- but I certainly could feel it by the end of the bottle. I really enjoyed this Barley Wine -- not the best of it’s kind but definitely up there and recommended. I will aim to get more and age them for a few years as I would imagine they would get even better.

Bottle. Poured a very small tan head, sparse lacing and a reddish brown hue. Malty, licorice, port, sweet, and alcohol aroma. Flavor was sweet, chocolate, malt, hops and somewhat syrupy tasting in the end. Mouthfeel was sweet, smooth and dry. A medium-full bodied barley wine.

Pours a dark brown with a small off white bubbly head. This actually smelled like Twizzlers...the strawberry kind. Other things I was picking up include raisin, plum and some caramel. Flavor is sweet and malty. Pick up some of the hops in the flavor as well. Not one of the top Barley Wines. But still very solid one. Alcohol was well hidden behind the malty sweetness.

2001 vintage: Pours dark brown to almost black. Decent carbonation. Light chocolate and coffee aroma mixed with hoppiness. Slight alcohol spritz on the tongue. Bitter taste with coffee dominant. I can't taste the 10.5%. It is well hidden. Finishes dry with a sweet-sour kick. Decent beer.

Bottle. Lots of dark fruit and caramel in the aroma. Fruity, but with plenty of hops. The alcohol strength drags it down a bit, it is too alcoholic.
