Light chocolate and coffee aroma mixed with hoppiness. Slight alcohol spritz on the tongue. Bitter taste with coffee dominant. I can't taste the 10.5%. It is well hidden. Finishes dry with a sweet-sour kick. Decent beer. RichardGretton (3156), Leicestershire, England

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 20, 2003 Probably one of the best of the Flying Dogs that I have had. Starts off with a thick liver colored pour with copious amounts of mocha colored foam - leads to good think lacing. The aroma has some brandy essences to it with a touch of molasses. Has some caramel, dates and raisins in the flavor. Not as much hops as I would expect in a Barley Wine though. The 10.5% ABV is apparent but not overwhelming or distracting. Nice thick mouthfeel. Flying Dog did a decent job on this one - still hate their labels though - but this is is easier to read than most. ogivlado (3088), Zagreb, Croatia

Sweet malty, strong caramel and hops taste with sharp alcohol and notes of licorice and dried fruits. Bitter alcoholic finish. hughie (3076), Bedford, Bedfordshire, England
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 3, 2008 Reddish brown. Smooth, sweet malty aroma with stewed plums. Taste is heavy and sweet, almost cloyingly so, full of dark, figgy fruitiness, alcohol, and black, chewy liquorice. There’s a thick, lingering dryness at the finish. Should have kept this one for Christmas. GeneralGao (3071), Iowa City, Iowa, USA

Hazy ruby brown color with tan head that laced the glass. Cotton candy, alcohol, and anise aroma that come out again in the flavor. Sweet, with alcohol melting into your tongue and rising into your nose. A good barley wine. WeeHeavySD (3041), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Nov 23, 2006 12 oz bottle. 2006 Vintage. Purchased at Chevy Chase Wine and Liquor in Washington DC. Pours a deep brown amber with a tiny thin barely there head. The aroma is malty and sweet, which matches the taste. The taste is sweet malty and has a nice throat warming character. A nice brew fresh seems like it could only get better with age. caesar (3034), Bunnik/Utrecht, Netherlands
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 3, 2008 Bottled. Clear amber color, short head. Aroma of caramel malt, typical american hops, hint of sugar cane. Sweet malty taste, quite bitter. Nothing special for an american barley wine, but not bad either.
