Commercial Description:
Big malty flavors, including licorice and chocolate, are balanced with a moderate hop profile. Brewed with copious amounts of prized malts and flaked oats, the Barley Wine is so strong that it has to be aged for several months before we can bottle it. Like a fine wine, it will continue to improve with age up to 2 years after bottling (If kept cool).

I don’t think that it stands out among Barley Wines but I found it to be very enjoyable and delicious. I would certainly drink more of these. I looked at the graphs and it seems to be trending higher so perhaps they have tweaked the recipe. Very dark, no head. Inviting spicy aroma and taste. The spices and flavuors seemed to be more nutmeg like and less cinamon.

Bottle. Prune, chocolate, licorice and malt aroma. Medium brown with small head. Sweet prune and chocolate flavor with moderate hops and alcohol finish. Nice - probably need to age this more and re-rate.

Vintage 2000. In the bottle at my own Barleywine tasting 2004. Aromatic caramel upon first opening. Very light in color. Taste of honey sweetness. The body is not too substantial for the style. Weaker mouth. Quite light on the hop flavoring. Very drinkable. I like the instructions on the label.

Yellowish beige head. Hazy brown body with reddish edges. Intense caramelly raisiny malt aroma with fruity notes. Dry-sweetish alcoholic malty caramelly chocolatey taste with fruity roasty hoppy notes. Full body. Noticeable alcohol heat. Dryish marzipan and alcohol aftertaste with chocolatey, peppery notes. Nice, but too alcoholic. (0.355l bottle from gr0ve.)

(Vintage 2003) Dark reddish brown, no head at all. Dense fruity and malty aroma of figs, cherries, caramel, raisin, almond alcohol and bitter hops. Raisins, madeira, wood, earth and black cherries in the flavour. Dense but still quite clean mouthfeel. Bitter finish of wood, resin, raisins and alcohol.

Aged six months. This is good. Sweet aroma with some alcohol. Plain brown appearance. Good flavor. Some dried fruit, bread, some smoke. Alcohol bite on the palate.
