Commercial Description:
Big malty flavors, including licorice and chocolate, are balanced with a moderate hop profile. Brewed with copious amounts of prized malts and flaked oats, the Barley Wine is so strong that it has to be aged for several months before we can bottle it. Like a fine wine, it will continue to improve with age up to 2 years after bottling (If kept cool).

Lots and lots of foam. Lots. I mean it. Once you can actually taste it, there is a smoky and earthy flavor and a plum / cherry aftertaste. Pretty good Barley Wine, Except for the carbonation.

The aroma reminded me of my grandma’s soap dish, being sweet and effervescent, moderately driven by the alcohol, plus notes of cherry, hairspray, and childrens’ toothpaste. Moderately frothy with some additional grape notes coming out in the flavor, finished with roasted qualities. Amber color. Decent drinking. (8-4-7-4-14) // Re-rate: Classically hoppy, tobacco as it warms, plus sweet grape. Very dark, wood brown. Smooth, low carbonation, smooth, slightly air-filed, frothy. Grape flavor from malts. Nice blend of sweet caramel and hops. (7-4-8-4-15)

Bottle from Enniskillen; Nose of plums and cherries, and lots of sweetness; color of black cherries with a nice beige head; flavor of hop bitterness with sweet berries and cherries with a mildly bitter hop finish. A very enjoyable barley wine!

Not bad but not altogether memorable as a barley wine either. Would like to try a bottle that has aged because I am sure that it mellows and becomes more complex.

12oz. Bottle: Sweet aroma. Smalls of malts, dark fruits, citrusy hops, alcohol, and caramel. Poured dark amber/ruby in color with a large light brown head that lasted throughout. Cloudy. Full of medium-sized particles. Flavor is medium sweet and lightly bitter. Tastes of roasted malts, caramel, hops, and some dark fruits. Full body. Thick, mouth-coating texture. Soft carbonation. Sweet malty finish with a hint of citrus hops.

(12 oz bottle: ScottVacula’s Barleywine Party ’04) The nose is strong alcohol, sweet and malty, and unfortunately, smells better than it tastes; The flavor is sweet, sugary, fruity, malty, and moderately bitter, which sounds good, but just didn’t do much for me; Sweet and sticky palate is a bit harsh in the finish; Dark ruddy brown color; Tan head fades to a rim and slight sheen, leaving some lacing on the glass; Overall not a bad barleywine, but probably still a bit hot and harsh, and it would probably benefit from a few years of aging

(Bottle, Monk’s Café, Stockholm, 2 April 2008) Dark reddish brown colour with brief, beige head. Fruity, malty nose with dried fruit, slightly vinous. Malty taste with notes of dried fruit, caramel and a decent bitterness in the finish. Rather vinous, medium to full body, balanced sweetness. Tasty and nicely balanced, but wouldn’t suffer from a little more character.
