Commercial Description:
Big malty flavors, including licorice and chocolate, are balanced with a moderate hop profile. Brewed with copious amounts of prized malts and flaked oats, the Barley Wine is so strong that it has to be aged for several months before we can bottle it. Like a fine wine, it will continue to improve with age up to 2 years after bottling (If kept cool).

Brown Coloring. Frothy Head. Barley Aroma... Some Roasts Here..Chocolate..Don’t Taste the Licorice.. Some Raisin and Cola Flavors. Slight Warming At the End. Alcohol Hits you Later. Very good Barley Wine..Not Extremely Sophisticated...May Warrant Aging and Trying Again.

Bottle (35 cl) at Bishops Arms, Avenyn, Göteborg, Sweden. Deep amber to copper, almost no head. Malty and biscuity, dark fruits and some cherries. Heavy body and soft mouthfeel, low carbonation. Good balance with a gentle bitterness. Ok, but pretty bland for a Barley Wine.

Again - great lable. Red, little head. Malty medium sweet nose, also dates, apples and cinnamon. Sweet malty taste in the beginning, then hoppy, medium long lasting aftertaste - edgy in the end. Syrupy in texture and taste like sugar beets syrup.

7 ounce bottle from Vintage Cellar in Blacksburg, VA. Pours a clear copper color with a medium creamy tan head. Good head retention and lacing. Malty aroma of caramel, toffee and floral hops. Taste is bitter leafy, citrus hops along with caramel, toffee, raisin and alcohol. Medium bodied.

THICK, brown, thick, malty, thick, roasted/sweetness, thick, poured with a huge head that lasted for the first half of the glass (no, i didn’t pour tooo vigorously). Low on hops, or maybe high on malt. A very relaxing beer. Packaged as ’Horn Dog Barleywine’. My beer merchant was suspect about the alc % - he can’t sell 10% in Ohio - his distributor just said ’well, here it is!’ Hooray for lucky me!!! This was very good.

Bottle probably about 1yr old, sat around in the fridge, never surfacing as one I wanted to try, not sure why I bought it in the first place, as I’m not a huge FD fan, cough, cough. The pour was brown with some reddish aspects, weak head, near nil lacing. The aroma was fruity, dark fruity, molasses, caramel. The flavor was dark fruity (not in a great way, though), caramel (sticky, icky, off), sticky, finishing with a slightly but not significantly redeeming piney (slight citrus) hop touch. Mouthfeel was lowly carbonated, sticky, actually quite an astringent mess. Ignore the label, this ain’t nothing like a "fine wine," and if it gets better over time, I’m glad I let it sit around for a little while before consuming. Boo, FD!

Bottle courtesy of Okbeer: Poured a deep brown color ale with a small foamy head with some retention and light lacing. Aroma of sugar is so pronounced that it gets quite gross and doesn’t allow for any other aspects of the beer to come through. Taste is also dominated by the sweetness and doesn’t allow much else to come through. I didn’t notice any large hops presence which could have mitigated some of the sweetness. Average body with some medium-low carbonation. Definitely not something that I feel the need to revisit anytime soon.
