Commercial Description:
Big malty flavors, including licorice and chocolate, are balanced with a moderate hop profile. Brewed with copious amounts of prized malts and flaked oats, the Barley Wine is so strong that it has to be aged for several months before we can bottle it. Like a fine wine, it will continue to improve with age up to 2 years after bottling (If kept cool).

Bottle courtesy of Okbeer: Poured a deep brown color ale with a small foamy head with some retention and light lacing. Aroma of sugar is so pronounced that it gets quite gross and doesn’t allow for any other aspects of the beer to come through. Taste is also dominated by the sweetness and doesn’t allow much else to come through. I didn’t notice any large hops presence which could have mitigated some of the sweetness. Average body with some medium-low carbonation. Definitely not something that I feel the need to revisit anytime soon.

{Bottle - Johns Market] A great flavor to this beer. A strong ale with a deep rich malty taste. Loved the malts used and the heat of the alcohol was awesome. Good sitting in the ski lodge brew after a long cold day of skiing.

Pours a muddy dark brown color. Very dark. A small, foamy, cream colored head recedes quickly, leaving minimal spotty lacing behind. Aromas of rich caramel, chocolate, dark fruits, and molasses make for a pretty sweet nose. Flavors are a bit more balanced, with earthen hops joining the malty sweetness. The chocolate component is pretty nice, adding an interesting element to the requisite dark caramel. Medium-full bodied and highly carbonated, this brew is slightly prickly and hot. Might improve with age, though I’m not sure how much. Nice enough brew, but nothing special.

Bottle; poured an amber/brown color with only the faint trace of a tan head. Aroma of caramel, dark fruit, alcohol, earth, with a bit of citrusy hop in the finish. Based on the fairly low ratings for the style, I was expected this to be worse. It was actually quite solid. Very earthy, with notes of caramel and fruit. Alcohol was present, but about what you would expected given the ABV. The finish is slightly sweet with some earthiness. After taste lingers for a bit and it was quite nice. A solid beer overall.
