Light and subtle aroma of chocolate, malts, plums and some alcohol. Flavor is very malty and sweet at the beginning with a malty middle and a slightly bitter and malty finish with a lot of alcohol warming at the end. Taste disappears very quickly, even before the warming effect has passed. Not a bad barley wine, but one of the less flavorful ones I’ve had. TAR (2093), Boulder Co., Colorado, USA

Osbcure malt notes rest beneath poorly concealed alcohol and overt sweetness. Lingering resinous hop finish. Dull example. PhillyBeer2112 (2087), Orange Park, Florida, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Feb 26, 2008 Huge fruity nose on this one, with deep rummy raisin and plums, coated in a caramel sauce. There’s a bit of a britishy herbal hop skirting the edges of the nose, but its hard to say. Huge almost acrid flavor with alot of heavy chewy malts, sharp and almost astringent, there’s licorice, essence of almond, and heavy caramel. Finish is balanced for something this big. Rounded yet heavy mouthfeel. Long lingering alcoholic finish, but its not overly hot. On the whole, a tad rough and raw, grainy and huge, not very sophisticated but it shows promise. It could age well, I’ll probably keep 2 of my 4 pack cellared for awhile. Deep almost purple color but with not much head, thin but heavily coating lace. SSSteve (2071), Atlanta, Georgia, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 2, 2006 ruby brown. small head. surprisingly easy to drink for a 10.5% barleywine even though there isn’t that much flavor. it lacks boldness but it’s still a decent offering. vyvvy (2044), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 21, 2007 Pours deep crimson bronze with a nice soapy tan head. The aroma has brown sugar, anise, caramel, heavily toasted malt, cola and alcohol warmth. Thick body that is quite rich and has minimal sharp carbonation. The taste starts with very toasted caramel malt, thick barleywine style taste with dark fruits, alcohol, light spice and raisins. The finish has a spice blast and lots of warmth. An okay barleywine. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 22, 2007 Bottle. Pours a lightly hazy mahogany and a thin but lasting tan head. Aromas of figs, caramel, bubble gum with just a touch of hoppy citrus. Full, sticky sweet body with medium carbonation. Juicy, chewy taste, with caramel, fruit, citrus. Lingering bittersweet grapefruit and fruit finish. It’s pretty much spot on right now,a and it could only get better with aging. patrick767 (2033), fort wayne, Indiana, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 18, 2006 sample from bottle - Pours dark brown with very little head. The aroma is malts with a hint of dark fruit and alcohol. It has a nice, full mouthfeel with a pleasantly balanced malt flavor. The alcohol is pretty well masked, so it’s not overly hot like some barley wines. It’s not complex, but it does its thing well.
