Commercial Description:
Big malty flavors, including licorice and chocolate, are balanced with a moderate hop profile. Brewed with copious amounts of prized malts and flaked oats, the Barley Wine is so strong that it has to be aged for several months before we can bottle it. Like a fine wine, it will continue to improve with age up to 2 years after bottling (If kept cool).

first time in my beer drinking career that the cap came off with a gun-shot loudness that had me ducking in my own kitchen..I poured it slowly and got a full glass of foam..I poured it again, and now 3/4 of the glass is foam..??
Aroma is sour cherries, alcohol, and brown sugar..
super fizzy but Oh My God an unbelievable flavor if you can get past the onslaught of fizz (it is hard to though)..cherry cream with licorice and spice..If this wasn’t so freakin carbinated to hell..this would be a super strong contender for best barley wine..but the fizz really does get in the way of the enjoyment..its rather sad..

12 oz. bottle via trade with IrishBoy - Pours a light brown color with a one finger thick light tan head. Aroma is spicey sweet and light esters. Flavor is toasted malt, spice, and esters. Alcohol is slightly noticeable. Medium body. A nice BW. Thanks Richard.

12oz bottle. A hazy, deep brown pour with a small beige head, light lacing. Great aromas of candied dark fruits (plums, raisins.....ect). A light hop bite was present as well. Flavor was sweet and malty. Finish was thick and syrupy. Overall a pretty good barely wine.

Bottle: Pours a dark brown with an off white head. Aroma, molasses, some fruits, plum, yeasty, and some alcohol. Flavor, caramel malts, some molasses, dark fruits, slight earthy hop to it. Very smooth beer, but the hops are barely noticeable. Not my favorite.

Pours basically black with a huge beige head in a snifter. Ruby edges when held to the light. From afar this looks like an imperial stout more than anything else. Smell is fruity, and malty mostly with a hint of staleness. Taste is a bit blandish with a unique roasty character for a barleywine. Now that I read the description, I’m definitely getting the licorice flavor as well. Somewhat of a dull cardboard like finish to it, and mild sweetness. Not particularly offensive, but not something I really cared for all that much, either. Something muted about the overall flavor to me. Average to slightly below average barley wine, to me, but still very easily drinkable for 10.5%, actually. Alcohol is basically non-existant in the flavor.

12oz bottle stored at about 55* for about 9 months before rating. A dark brown pour with a sweet aroma of dried fruit, mostly raisins. An initial sweetness that gives way to a bit of a bitter then smooths out to a sweet even mouthfeel. The 10.5 doesn’t come through like I would have thought. Good carbonation and not thin at all. I remember drinking a couple of these the weekend I bought them. This bottle does seem to have mellowed a bit if memory serves me correctly. I liked it then and like it more now.

Murky mahogany with a thin tan head. Nice mildly sweet caramel smell. Full bodied with a super smooth mouthfeel. Malt driven taste has a just right cotton candy sweetness. Hop are noticable only in their absence. An American bw that doesn’t choke you with hops. You gotta love it. 51706

Bottle from Keg & Bottle 2. Pours a deep hazy brownish color with traces of ruby. Slightly sweet aroma. Lots of maltiness with traces of hops. More malty with alot of roasty dark fruitiness, than hoppy. Alcohol is very well hidden. Nice sipper at room temp.
