I have to say this was a very interesting beer to say the least. This is WAY to carbonated though to truly be a superstar beer. Huge malt presence with a mild hop bite at the end. Hog heaven and bigfoot run circles around this one! the abv is questionable-i dont know if its that high. If it was, it must have been masked by the huge carbonation. I plan to age the other remaining 3 bottles i have. beerbill (1955), Laurel, New York, USA

Pours a mostly clear dark reddish brown with a moderate off-white head that faded to a film after a few sips and left decent lacing through mid-glass. Pleasant aroma of caramel and a bit of brown sugar. The flavor is mostly caramel again with a bit of brown sugar. Some alcohol warmth at the swallow, but it does not interfere with the beer. Lacks the silkiness and body though that I think of with some of the better barley wines. fordest (1954), Santee/San Diego, California, USA

Brown color with very little head. Aromas of molassas, brown sugar, toffee. Flavors were similar with some caramel and roastiness. Alcohol was very evident in the finish. I liked it!!! phishpond417 (1953), Madison, Wisconsin, USA

Strong and high in abv, with a noticeable alcohol taste. Raisins, strawberries and cinnamon. a tight hop finish rounds off this strong but balanced brew. stouby (1948), Holbaek, Denmark

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | May 3, 2003 Blood cider appearance with a ring of carbonation. This is an easy going, moderate barley wine with evident malts and a possible touching of orange. The texture was mildly syrupy. Well balanced sweetness. scraff (1943), Baltimore, Maryland, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Sep 30, 2005 2005 - Deep hazed brownish crimson, thick creamy tan head. Interesting nose of brown sugar coated orange rind, toffee, banana chips, booze, fig and cherry. Flavor was dark and malty with more notes of cherry, fig, alcohol, and banana bread. Everything seems to sit on top of a large hop back bone, but it never quite comes together with the massive malt profile. Age will definitely do wonders here. Full bodied, soft carbonation, bittersweet finish. Not a top BW by any means, but certainly worth a try...

Taste is rich, syrupy and viscous. Quite sweet, strong toffee, caramel, and maple syrup. Bit powdery and sugary at end. Doesn't have much malty depth, just lots of sweetness up front. Not bad, but many better barleywines out there.
