| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 11, 2007 Pour is a black with a small tan head. Aroma is deffinatly licorice and dark chocolate. Flavor is about the same. Some chocolate with tons of dark fruit and molasses. A decent barley wine and the only negative is the hops are a no show. Still one to seek out just not the best of its kind. Sham (1846), Seattle, Washington, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 17, 2003 Dark mahogany pour with an off white head and spotty lacing. Sweet malts, some roast, licorice, chocolate, and maybe some fruits. Big time sweet malts in the flavor. Some more roasted malts, some chocolate, and more fruit, maybe grape or plum. Some hints of the licorice as well. A full body along with an oily palate, but not cloying. Decent little barley wine. oldrtybastrd (1846), Morlautern, Germany/Great Falls, Montana, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 24, 2005 Pours a hazy reddish brown. Aromas of hops, caramel malts, kind of medicinal. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 3, 2004 Bottle - thanks to DarkElf for contributing this to our Barley Wine tasting 7/24/04. Pours brown with garnet highlights and minimal head that diminished quickly. Sweet malty nose with noticible hoppiness and alcohol. Flavor is unremarkable, roasty malts, strong hop character and the aforementioned alcohol bite. Full body and some carbonation. Below average for a BW. Dorwart (1831), Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 21, 2005 Thin head from a vigorous pour. Light carbonation. Very dark for a barleywine. A very dark mahagony brown. Sweet roasty aroma with loads of malts and a bit of molasses and licorice. Malty and sweet with plenty of alcohol presence. Warms very nicely as it goes down. More molasses and a hint of coffee. Roasty finish with more alcohol. Not very complex for a barleywine and could use a good helping of hops tp offset the malts and alcohol. Not the worst but not the best either. rederic (1815), montréal, Quebec, Canada
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Mar 27, 2007 Hazy dark mahogany hue, with some reddish highlights, a small tan-colored head, but falling quickly, and leaving laces, malty nose, with some fruity black cherry, date and plum notes, with some alcoholic affluvia, a faint dark chocolatey accent, hint of spiciness in the aroma follows through on a full-bodied palate with a sweet fruity, malty character, from dates, raisins blackcherries, a faint floral hop, a mild licorice spiciness with a smooth syrupy malty alcoholic warmth mouthfeel, leading towards a thick malty, fruity, alcoholic finish. thornecb (1813), Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA
