Flying Dog Horn Dog Barley Wine

Bottle. Poured a medium red body with thin head. Aroma is caramel, pale malt. Flavor is light caramel, malty body and very sweet. Light fruit noted.

Bottled from Bierkoning. Clear brown coloured, dying head. Nose of malts and raisins. Alcoholic malty flavour. Not impressive.

Bottle. Pours a deep oxblood with a one finger tan head that leaves great lacing. The nose is fruit and malt. The taste is brown sugar, caramel and sweet dark fruits with some spiked bready yeast in the finish. Medium creamy body. Pretty decent BW.

Bottle from Sam’s in Durham. This is an easy drinking barleywine, especially at 10.3%. Sweet malt aromas and flavors dominate with a nice hoppy backbone. Pleasent, but not enough character to make me seek it out again.

12oz bottle-A dark ruby red/brown body with a nice tight tan head. Roasted malt, sweetness, and sugars on the nose. Flavors begin with sweetness, malt, and plums on this full bodied beer. It finishes with chocolate and a little alcohol. Very well balanced Barley Wine. Not my style but very impressed.

From a 12 oz. long neck brown bottle with no bottled/freshness date. Sampled at cellar temperature. Made a good appearance, poured a cloudy milk chocolate brown with a small foamy head that settled into a thin bubbly lacing, moderate carbonation. Had a nose of caramel and butter, spicy alcohol and ripe date and fig fruity. A smooth full bodied mouth feel, good drinkability. Big malty taste, caramelized and a little sour bready, spicy subtle alcohol, fig fruity, a mild hop bite and a spicy, grainy and alcohol warm finish. A nice barley wine from Flying Dog, warming and tasty. The artwork on the bottles is by Ralph Steadman.

(on bottle)Short hoppy nose and a whif of alohol, withheld, yet promising powerfull sent. Hazy dark orange, small head. The malts are more dominating in the taste and put a lid on the hops in the finish too. There are fruity notes, but the floresent aromas, taste and finish isen´t that complex, a fine hopped BW.

Pours dark burgundy with a mostly receding tan head. Aroma of sweet caramel, vinous, spicy hops. Taste is sweet with peppery alcohol. Mouthfeel is heavy with medium carbonation. Finishes with a coating hop resin and lingering alcohol vapors. The bottle looks cool, not impressed by the beer though.
