Commercial Description:
Big malty flavors, including licorice and chocolate, are balanced with a moderate hop profile. Brewed with copious amounts of prized malts and flaked oats, the Barley Wine is so strong that it has to be aged for several months before we can bottle it. Like a fine wine, it will continue to improve with age up to 2 years after bottling (If kept cool).

2001 Vintage: Murky brown pour with thin short lived head. Aroma is very sweet, full of caramel and butterscotch. Initial flavor is somewhat weak, a tad watery and unbalanced faint plums and crystal malt, leading to a dull finish. Not overpowering in any manner and quite drinkable, but there could definitely be more complexity. The one thing this does have going for it is that it hides its alcohol very well.

Sparkling clear, very dark and deep copper ale. Small, khaki-colored head. The aroma is wonderful! Caramel and milk chocolate; cinnamon and spiced rum. Cherries too. Very sweet, fruity and alcoholic flavor. Full-bodied with a syrupy mouthfeel and fizzy carbonation. Astringent, alcoholic, yet remarkably dry finish… or is that just the alcohol sucking all the moisture from my mouth? A good barley wine. The sweetness actually becomes less cloying as it warms.

12oz bottle-pours a thin light tan head and cloudy dark brown color. Aroma is dark malt-sweet toffee, dark fruit, some spicy, alcohol. Taste is dark malt-sweet toffee/chocolate, some spicy, hops, alcohol. Medium/full body. Too much spice hangs too long through the aftertaste. OK carbonation.

Dark reddish, brown colour with a tan head. Toasted malty aroma with bread, molasses and light hoppy notes and hints of some vinous alcohol. Light roasted malty flavor with notes of molasses, Liqourice and dark fruit. Light dry and hoppy bitter finish with an alcohol warming note.

Red-brown beer, full of small UFO’s with an amber-cream head, leaving impressive lacerings. Very fruity, sweet-grainy & alcohol nose. Fruit on alcohol, like oranges or so in a real sangria , but more syrupy. Very rich fruity-cake taste, alcohol (with its additional sweetness) obvious. Wry prunes, discreet but present hops. Old, madeirisated winerest. Thick, alcoholwarming, rich voluptuous MF. Excellent, if not blasting B.W. Among the best of Flying Dog.
