Commercial Description:
Big malty flavors, including licorice and chocolate, are balanced with a moderate hop profile. Brewed with copious amounts of prized malts and flaked oats, the Barley Wine is so strong that it has to be aged for several months before we can bottle it. Like a fine wine, it will continue to improve with age up to 2 years after bottling (If kept cool).

Poured from a 12 oz bottle. Opaque brown color. Strong liquorish and some chocolate in the nose. Liquorish dominates the flavor at the begining. Strong alcohol flavor and some chocolate as beer warms. Decent barleywine.

Pours deep mahogany with a halo of tan foamy bubbles. Nose is sweet with caramel, molasses, rasins. The flavor is a bit pungent and sour in the back of the mouth. There is also a subtle sweetness in the mid. An earthy influence and burning sensation on the way down.

Reddish brown/mahoganey, thin soapy off-white head. Not a bad aroma. Quite nice, actually. Chocolate, woody and citrusy hops, maybe some black cherry and other sweet fruits. Flavor is way too sweet. I don’t like overhopped barleywines.. but this is just too much on the opposite end. Sweet sweet chocolate, licorice. Some citrusy hops linger in the finish. Nicely smooth on the tongue though. I love the aroma, and want to like the taste... just can’t get over the sweetness.

have to say i'm very surprised by this one. nose is full of malts and brown sugar and caramel. hops are really only mildly perceptible. from an otherwise ordinary brewer, this is a very tasty and complex beer...notes of maple syrup, coffee and dark chocolate in the finish.

Pours a deep mahogany with barely any head. There is a sweet appley aroma, almost cidery, that seems a bit thin. Very hoppy taste, with a lot of sweetness. A full and syrupy mouthfeel. Overall, one of the best barley wines I’ve ever had.

Had this beer on 8/26/2006. Aroma is the rich sweet scent of dark roasted malts. Color is a deep rich brown that lets little light though. Carbonation is low with a thin but tight head. Taste is smooth and rich. Starting with a rich body it goes down smooth with just a light bite on the end. Finish comes in with a rich malt flavor that end with a sweet caramel taste. At the very end it leaves you with a lighter feel then most Barley Wines. I feel it may be just a tad bit light, but this does make it a very drinkable Barley Wine because it isn’t soo heavy and rich.

Pours a very dak color that looks like red velvet chocolate. Small off white head that quickly turns into a little bit of soap on the surface and a nice conssitant ring around the glass. Nose is figs, fruit, raisens, Malt and maybe some alcohol. Mouth feel is medium thickness and has a very soft finish. Taste is malty and of belgian sugar. This is almost like a BW belgian ale hybrid. Intersting but a bit unbalanced in the taste. Nice though.
