Commercial Description:
Big malty flavors, including licorice and chocolate, are balanced with a moderate hop profile. Brewed with copious amounts of prized malts and flaked oats, the Barley Wine is so strong that it has to be aged for several months before we can bottle it. Like a fine wine, it will continue to improve with age up to 2 years after bottling (If kept cool).

This is most certainly not a barleywine in flavor, just the alcohol content. It is very nutty and somewhat fruity, with a touch of cocoa in the mix. It's not as smooth as some of the better, well-aged barleywines, but it is very drinkable nonetheless.

12 oz bottle. Pours a darker golden amber color. Aroma of warm alcohol, malts, and hops. Flavor is a malty, citrus beverage that is relatively smooth for such a high alcohol content beer. Finish is sweet.

Bottled. Dark brown colour, not quite opaque, with ruby highlights. Small, creamy tan head and sticky lacing. Aroma is clean with malt and molassas. Flavour is licorice, molasses and dried fruit. The 10.5 ABV is well hidden.

12 oz bottle from canis major mixed 4-pack from West Lakeview Liquors, Chicago. Hazy deep brown with small, fizzy beige head. Aroma is perfumy and fruity with sweet banana. Big alc, perfumy, sweet banana with a little dough and other fruit with some subtle hops as well. Medium and syrupy body with some carbonation. This is very reminiscent of FFF Alpha Kong to me, but surprisingly more drinkable despite the fact that it’s a little gross.

Appearance is dead on for the style, orange in color with a very well retained light tan colored head. Nose is malty with some alcohol, not much in the hop department. Flavor is sweet, cough syrup, and overly alcoholic. This one definetely needs work. More malt and a lot more hops, something to improve the rather thin palate also.

Poured a reddish brown color with an off white head. Aroma was dark fruits, some spices, lots of maltiness, and the alcohol is definately there as well. Flavor was extremely sweet, notes of fruits and some caramel/light chocolate notes, not too much bitterness, but a really strong alcohol warming in the finish.

Hazy, dark amber appearance with a small head. Appealing aroma of licorice and memories of caramel cream candies. Malty flavors imparted a smooth mouthfeel complimented by a subtle hop presence. Fruity, sweet finish with a noticable alcohol kick. Compares well to many other barley wines. Best of the Flying Dog litter that I’ve tried so far.
