Smooth deep malt flavor, bit of anise and liquorice. Hops are really nice in the background, but a nice counterpoint to the sweet maltiness. Definitley the best I’ve had from this brewery. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 21, 2008 12oz - Aroma is caramel malt, raisin, plum and alcohol. Pours dark brown with small head and decent lacing. Taste is a sweeter than expected with a lot of caramel and toffee. Palate is sticky and hot with alcohol. Not bad fresh and maybe a little time for the burn to fade will be beneficial.. JaBier (1264), Capital City, Ohio, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Oct 18, 2002 Updated: Jan 20, 2003The beer poured with a large head. The one I had immediately over flowed the bottle after I opened it. It had a sweet, fruity taste. Mild amount of bite (hops) on the finish. I wouldn't mind having another one, but I don't think I'd rush out to get one. crazyvin (1254), New York, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 7, 2006 Definitely not my favorite style. Barley wines always have too much alcohol in the nose and too much alcohol in the flavor, and this one is no exception. Some redemption in the darker hints of sweet toffee and sweet dried fruit and maybe a hint of chocolate plus enough hops to salvage something.
