Commercial Description:
Big malty flavors, including licorice and chocolate, are balanced with a moderate hop profile. Brewed with copious amounts of prized malts and flaked oats, the Barley Wine is so strong that it has to be aged for several months before we can bottle it. Like a fine wine, it will continue to improve with age up to 2 years after bottling (If kept cool).

Had this while camping after a big dinner. Bottle from 01, 2 years aged. Aroma of mollasses and chocolate. Dark amber color with generous head and lots of silky lacing on the glass. Flavors of fig and chocolate malt with a good amount of hops that tingle in your mouth. There was not a very strong alcohol taste to this and was a tad overcarbonated on the palate and very dry.

Bottle. Poured hazy brown color with an average off-white frothy head that was mostly lasting with fair lacing. Moderate spicy malty and alcohol aroma. Medium body with a sticky texture. Medium sweet spicy flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. I would recommend this to a freind.

Bottled. A dark brown beer with a purple hue and no head. the aroma is very hoppy and there is lots of alcohol in the nose. Also noticed is a bit of a floor polish type aroma. The taste is hoppy with orange notes and plummy fruit too. The alcohol comes through but this is not a brash, harsh barley wine, instead it is pleasantly drinkable.

Bottle. Amber brown with purple and a small head. Aromas are sweet malts and berries with molasses and bready yeast. Lightly spicy and vinous with woody herbal notes. Flavours are sweet toffee mailts with spiced resinous oranges. Fruity and moreish with nice spicy pine. The alcohol is not too harsh. A good warming brew.

Pours turbid burny sienna, with a small, off-white head. Aroma of malt, dark fruit, cognac, and a twinge of "excited poontang". Tastes malty, sweet, with layers of dark fruit at the finish. Medium, firm palate. Not as complex as Sierra Nevada Bigfoot, but very good in its own right. There is a HUGE layer of yeast on the bottom of this.

Very dark brown with a red hue, big and creamy beige head. Aroma of malt and bread, with port and dried fruits. A true barley wine aroma, but a bit simple. Really malty dominated flavour, with lots of sweetness and complex notes of the high alcohol content. After a while, the malt sweetness gets a little cloying like a bad doppelbock. If we had geographically divided sub-styles, I would count this as an English, not an American barleywine.

Bottle. Head is initially small, frothy, light brown, mostly diminishing. Body is hazy dark amber, unfiltered. Aroma is lightly to moderately hoppy (grapefruit, resin), lightly to moderately malty (cookie, caramel), with notes of sawdust, dried mango, alcohol. Flavor is heavily sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, moderately bitter. Medium to full body, watery/syrupy texture, lively carbonation, moderately alcoholic. Muddled and confusing mess...doesn’t seem to know what it wants to excel in, and ends up just being a bunch of disjointed parts.

12 oz bottle. Dark brown and oily-looking, very dark for a barley wine; just a thin wisp of head. Expected dark fruits, hints of caramel, and citrusy hops in the nose; rather subdued overall. Pretty sweet and syrupy in the mouthfeel, some nice sour cherry notes. Not terribly hoppy, but a prevailing sourness and old leathery character keep it from being cloying. While hardly the greatest barley wine, its certainly drinkable and might be a good lightweight intro to the style.
