Aroma of malt and chocolate - I think there really was a light wiff of licorice when the cap came off. No head. Brownish color. Starts dried plum and raisin. It’s malty sweetish, and has a firm mouthfeel. Hop is very light. The alcohol warms the palate, and the throat, and below. As it warms, there does seem to be pear, probably not apple. The mouth sensations do seem to turn a bit unpleasant, if one quits sipping. Sort of like heated banana. This is pretty complex. heemer77 (4311), Savannah, Missouri, USA

The aroma is toffee, leaves, and a pleasant mustiness. The taste begins fairly sweet more like an English style barleywine. As you drink the tastes of anise, bread, cola and sherry all come to play. This is a nice complex, yet fairly light bodies barleywine. Nice. I am aging a couple more of these. tiggmtl (4311), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 1/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Nov 24, 2005 Cocoa and soy are apparent in the sweet, bozzey aroma. Opaque brown body with a very slight, off white head that dissipates immediately. Soy, chocolate and vinous, fruity flavours with leafy hops and some sherry-like oxidation. Medium full body with fair carbonation. Bottle (2003 Vintage) sampled at Peculier Pub in NYC with Olivier_MTL and Rastacouere. Skinnyviking (4170), Copenhagen, Denmark
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 26, 2007 Bottle. Small creamy and lasting light brown head. Hazy dark red brown body. Sweet berries aroma. Both sweet spicy and bitter nuances in this pretty complex flavor of berries caramel and mild hops. Alcohol is tastable but not too much of a good thing. Low carbonation. Short aftertaste. goldtwins (4084), Nesconset, New York, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 6, 2006 Poured a cloudy and very deep reddish-brown color with a medium but quickly shrinking light tan head. Aroma of dark fruit, slightly aged malt, choclate, and notes of soy sauce. Flavor malty sweet. Dark fruit with some acidity. Semi-dry finish. This bottle has some aged malt flavors. I dont know the age but i don’t think more than a couple years. Warming. Pretty tasty. Nice example. Skyview (4064), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 23, 2007 Shared by brewfiend, pours a near opaque dark brown with a fast dissolving off-white head that leave no trace or lacing. Aroma of dark roasted malt, raisined pitted dark fruits, plums, and a touch of molasses. Taste is like an average tawny, full bodied, no carbonation with flavors of caramel, chocolate and some dark cola. Finish is overly sweet with an alcohol burn in the aftertaste. Age that bugger! | 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Mar 30, 2006 Bottle, Vintage 2005B. Poured a fiery reddish-orange with a short cap of beige head... quite a bit of sediment suspended in there. Nose contained a whole bunch of alcohol, only partially held in check by a bevy of dark malts (dark fruit, rum-soaked cherries, chocolate, and caramel representin’). Flavor was mighty similar... alcohol-fueled dark malts that did not play so well together. Medium-bodied. Flaked oat smoothness across the middle with ever-present alcohol... finish was tacky. Really didn’t do it for me. Sammy (4049), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

The initial barley and then full malting.Surprisingly high alcohol.
