Poured a dark, hazy amber-brown with a small, diminishing very light brown head. Aroma - alcohol, burned caramel, toasted rich malt, some hops, certainly yeast, and strangely, mushrooms! Taste was spicy dark malt, prunes, yeast(s), a little hop-bitter with warming - and of course, alcohol was in the house, but not stroppy. An average linger, and perhaps a tad alcohol-harsh and one-dimensional, but a barley wine and freakin’ proud of it. Of the b-wines I’ve had, it’s in the upper third. Dark brown with a very thin tan head. Sweet brown sugar aroma, malt and a hint of alcohol. Flavour is sweet, malty, brown sugar, touch of molasses. Dry finish, with some hops coming out in the aftertaste. Medium oily palate. Simplistic at times, but very drinkable. Underrated in my opinion. A beer that shows that it trusts you. ;) beerguy101 (3920), Newark, California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 29, 2005 Dark brown color. Medium sized white foamy head. Aroma is brown sugar, dark malts and dark fruits. A medium to full bodied barley wine. Malts are sweet with lots of chocolate, dark fruit and brown sugar flavors. Hops are slightly herbal and grapefruit. Mostly big sweet malt flavors in this beer, balanced mostly toward the malts, not that that’s a bad thing. Fairly smooth taste. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is sweet. thedm (3836), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 31, 2004 This bottled brew poured a very small sized head of foamy finely sized mostly lasting light brown colored bubbles that left behind a poor lacing. The body contained no visible carbonation, was nearly opaque and unnoted in color. Its aroma contained notes of mild vinous malt and raisin. Its mouth feel is initially slightly tingly with a lingering tingly palate. Its flavor contained different tastes than I have noted before with some dark beer brown malty notes and was tasty. An above average brew. Grovlam (3809), Copenhagen, Denmark

Fair display of lacework. Mahogany colour. Nice and complex aroma of bread, grain, caramel and lots of dried fruit and vinous feel over this beer. Almost a light sweet chocolate at the very end. Very full bodied with a soft carbonation and thick and light alcoholic texture. Moderated to heavy sweet flavour with light notes of bitterness. Lingering malty sweet finish. Nice and smooth Barley Wine. Braudog (3766), Dayton, Ohio, USA

Syrupy burnt brown sugar essence with a strong tart grape overbite. I’m no barleywine fan, so maybe I’m jaded, but you gotta be in the mood for this potion. Theis (3756), Denmark
