Commercial Description:
Big malty flavors, including licorice and chocolate, are balanced with a moderate hop profile. Brewed with copious amounts of prized malts and flaked oats, the Barley Wine is so strong that it has to be aged for several months before we can bottle it. Like a fine wine, it will continue to improve with age up to 2 years after bottling (If kept cool).

Bottle, bought @ Ølbutikken, Cph. Pours a very deep dark brownish red - without light behind it, it looks positively black. A nice, staying creamy off white head with good lacing. Aroma is sweet, lots of dried fruits, chocolate and Belgian sugars. Extremely creamy mouthfeel, low carbonation. Flavour is powerful, lots of sweetness with a terrific amount of caramel, roasted malts, chocolate. Lots of viniousness, but never alcoholic. This is really a nice BW.

Bottle thanks to dchmela, thanks again! Aroma of caramel and licorice malt, dark dried fruits, some resin hops and a little alcohol. Dark brown murky hue with a small almost fully diminishing of khaki head that left little lace. Flavor is sweet caramel and raisin malt with a little resin hop bitterness on the finish. Full bodied and oily soft. Alcohol is a little too pronounced throughout. Very nice for a young barley wine. A couple of years and this could be really good.

Pours a brownish red color with a thin tan head. Aroma is of dark fruits, chocolate, caramel, molasses, oak, and maybe a little cherry. Flavor is strong of the dark fruits and oak that give way to the chocolate, caramel, and molasses. Finishes with some alcohol warming that makes this brew probably one of my favorites from Flying Dog.

12-oz. Pours weak-coffee brown with amber highlights and virtually no head after a minute. Watching bubbles fight to rise through syrup like this is always a little entertaining. Sweet huge malt on the nose, with toffee, vanilla, and banana. There’s even a little boozy pinch on the nose; oddly, it’s more pronounced when the beer is cold. Ultra-creamy mouth: thick, rich beer with very light bubbles. All the sweets and fruits of the nose fill the flavor, and there’s just enough hop to give it a gesture of bitter balance on the finish. This is a delicious, drinkable barley wine. Fantastic.

Bottle. Vintage 07B. Pours a hazy deep red-brown colour with a huge lively creamy light brown well lasting head. Quite sweet aroma of well toasted caramel, toasted malt, ripe fruits, dark dried fruits, alcohol and slight chocolate. Very good rather sticky mouthfeel. The flavour is quite sweet with a good bitter hoppiness, caramel and brown sugar, well toasted malt, dark fruits, alcohol, and some chocolate. Quite sweet bitter finish. Great tasty brew!

2005 12 oz. bottle. Decent head. Smells so sweet and relaxing that even a non beer drinker would be invited by its aroma. Tastes like dersert- mousse cake. Perhaps a little muddled. I did not really mind. Great finish. I want to age some.

Pours deep mahogany into a Trappist glass. Slight off-white head quickly recedes. Dark caramel aromas. Sweet upfront with no noticeable alcohol. Lasting resin finish.
