Aroma had caramel, pinapple, courant, chocolate and liquorice. The caramel was great in the taste. There was some berry in it as well. Very good caramel mouthfeel. This was an impressive brew but it doesn’t quite rank up there with the top Barley Wines. Tubbfan (144), Joliet, Illinois, USA

I was wrong to think this, because the flavor is awesome! Just the right amount of hops. The aroma IS a bit too cloyingly alcohol, though. This has a dark brown/black appearence, The thick thick head disperses quickly, but it then settles into a nice medium. I love this, because it has a full body, but then what should you expect from a barley wine? The flavor is great! I detect some citrus, plums and alcohol. When I go to the liquor store, I’ll look for more from Flying Dog! puzzl (2648), New York, New York, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 20, 2005 I’m surprised this is as low as it is. This is a delicious and well-defined BW, IMO. Aroma has a nice herbal bouquet along with some rich malts, and there is a really full malt sweetness in the flavor, balanced by a touch of hops at the end. The alcohol really comes through and dominates the finish, though never in a bad way, really. The palate is real creamy as well. Storm (2685), Amager, Denmark

Sweet malty aroma with hints of raisins. Great flavour of sweet malt, burned caramel, littlebitter and a nice warming finish from the alcohol, very intense and very nice endeed. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 19, 2008 Bottle. Poured amber with a creamy off-white head that left light lacing. Aromas of dark fruits, cherry, and apple backed with some maltiness . The flavor finds raisins, prune, cherry, and a chocolate background. Full body. Very enjoyable. boFNjackson (1321), Portland, Oregon, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 22, 2007 I absolutely love this style, I can’t see to rate them low. Bottle... poured an opaque grape color, with a thin tan head that diminished quickly. Sweet, chocolate-malt aroma. The flavors consist of that initial barley-malt bite, but great characters of creamy milk, chocolate, and a very smooth finish. The beer got better with every sip as it warms and my mouth adjusted to it’s palate. If you take fast swigs you can get the kick from the alcohol. But if you drink it slowly, and let it sit in your mouth you really get a flavor blast. slang (407), Columbia, South Carolina, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Oct 20, 2005 2005 bottle. Mine had decent carbonation and produced a good head. DEEP brown, really a great color. Smells buttery and, wel, like alcoholic candy (toffee). Very bold. All malts up fronts, then fades to alcohol, with a spicy hopped out finish. Almost tounge numbing palate. I do enjoy the malty B.W.s over the hop monsters. Worth purchasing again, and set some aside. Dedollewaitor (3764), Odense, Denmark
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 23, 2007 Bottle says "vintage??" Amber brown with fast disappearing white head. Aroma is sweet sugar, malts, hops, bread & cookies. Sweet spicy warm, sticky & a bit alcohol burning. However alcohol is well hidden in the flavor. Nice lacings. Very well balanced. Complex barley wine & still easy drinkable. Wauw!
