Commercial Description:
Big malty flavors, including licorice and chocolate, are balanced with a moderate hop profile. Brewed with copious amounts of prized malts and flaked oats, the Barley Wine is so strong that it has to be aged for several months before we can bottle it. Like a fine wine, it will continue to improve with age up to 2 years after bottling (If kept cool).

Pours with a giant tan head. The head quickly dissolves, leaving a dark brown ale with strong aroma of chocolate. Taste is strong on malt, with a little anise in the back, and finishes with a little spice. Alcohol is definately there, slightly warming the gullet on the way down. I have some extras that I plan to age for a bit, and possibly re-rate.

Bottle. Deep copper in color with a nice fluffy head. Malty flavor. Sweet cherry flavor. Full bodied. Decent beer. Fruity aroma and flavor. Nice alcohol burn. Enjoyable.

Had this while camping after a big dinner. Bottle from 01, 2 years aged. Aroma of mollasses and chocolate. Dark amber color with generous head and lots of silky lacing on the glass. Flavors of fig and chocolate malt with a good amount of hops that tingle in your mouth. There was not a very strong alcohol taste to this and was a tad overcarbonated on the palate and very dry.

Dark brown, opaque with a fine head. Aroma of cream and malt. Well-balanced flavour, very malty. Good beer but a little bit heavy to my taste.

Bottled. Muddy, dark amber. Small, beige head. Very sweet and malty aroma. Sweet fruits, nuts and hops. Thick and oily palate. Loads of sweet fruits; apricots, raisins, figs. Warm, alco-feel.

Hazy, dark amber appearance with a small head. Appealing aroma of licorice and memories of caramel cream candies. Malty flavors imparted a smooth mouthfeel complimented by a subtle hop presence. Fruity, sweet finish with a noticable alcohol kick. Compares well to many other barley wines. Best of the Flying Dog litter that I’ve tried so far.

Bottled
Ruby color, small floating yeast particles, small off-white head. Hoppy, berry-like, bready aroma. Licorice, sweet liquer and barley in the flavor. Very smooth, enjoyable liquerish mouthfeel. Me likes!

Deep mahogany with thin tan head. Strong aroma of alcohol and sweet malt. Dark fruit like cherry and plum come through most on the flavor. Slight alcohol finish. Nice barley wine.
