Commercial Description:
Big malty flavors, including licorice and chocolate, are balanced with a moderate hop profile. Brewed with copious amounts of prized malts and flaked oats, the Barley Wine is so strong that it has to be aged for several months before we can bottle it. Like a fine wine, it will continue to improve with age up to 2 years after bottling (If kept cool).

Dark brown with a strong tan head. Sweet aroma, almost of molasses. Big maltiness in flavour which I love with less abv than the IIPA. This is a goer for a malthead.

Deep, dark red color, going on black, with a very thin head. Very strong, but sweet, malt aroma. A little grainy, but malt and raw barley are predominant. Quite sweet. It strikes me as very raw; there is not much protection from the alcohol. It could use some time to settle, but good even right away.

99 vintage, Before it got the Horndog title i guess ? Small, brown, large bubbled head that fades into a thin ring and a light film on top of this clear chestnut colored brew. Malty, fruity nose with hints of black licorice and some very subdued citrus notes as well. Med/full body, creamy texture. Big malt flavor, dark fruits, raisins, hints of chocolate, caramel, a bit musty and a dab of alcohol thrown in also. Medium sweet, fruity finish. Has seemed to hold up fairly well.

(Bottled, 2007 vintage) Slightly hazy, deep ruby red with a smallish, tanned head, and lots of floating yeast. Lots of vinous, slightly sweet malt with dried fruit. Strongly toffee-malty, mildly roasty, very grainy flavor with some vinous berries. Quite full-bodied and thick palate with lowish carbonation. A full and thick barley wine with not too much sweetness, and less hops than expected.

One of the best beers I’ve ever smelled, looked at, tasted, and just overall enjoyed. Slighlty syrupy, very malty, nicely biting of the alcohol, yes. Yummy. HOWEVER, it’s just not as good as some other barley wines out there, e.g., from Victory, Dogfish, and Weyerbacher.

12 oz bottle. Deep dark brown-orange beer with very little head. Nice aroma, malty oragne peel and a hint of molasses. Strong alcohol and resiny, piny hops. Flavour is quite good, starts of sweet and malty with caramel and molasses notes before a really pricky citrusy/resiny hop flavour comes through. This passes fairly quickly before a long plummy/pruny dried fruit finish takes over. Quite a nice barleywine.

Bottle. Good caramelly sugar aroma, some alcohol, hint of grassy hops. Deep dark red/brown with small floaties. The flavour is very sweet, caramelly, slightly roasted. Slightly rough finish, probably both from alcohol and hops, but good. Too sweet, though.

Dark reddish, brown colour with a tan head. Toasted malty aroma with bread, molasses and light hoppy notes and hints of some vinous alcohol. Light roasted malty flavor with notes of molasses, Liqourice and dark fruit. Light dry and hoppy bitter finish with an alcohol warming note.
