Notes of roasted malt (huh?), prunes, and slight floral notes in the nose with prunes, plums, raisins and dates coming out in the flavor profile. Fairly complex with a mildly sweet finish. The mahogony colored brew had an absolutely HUGE, pillowy, off-white head that lasted forever and ever. A quality brew and the best I’ve had from Flying Dog. dolemike1 (1129), Jeannette, Pennsylvania, USA

Slightly sweet aroma. Lots of maltiness with traces of hops. More malty with alot of roasty dark fruitiness, than hoppy. Alcohol is very well hidden. Nice sipper at room temp. bhensonb (4380), Woodland, California, USA

Aroma of malt and chocolate - I think there really was a light wiff of licorice when the cap came off. No head. Brownish color. Starts dried plum and raisin. It’s malty sweetish, and has a firm mouthfeel. Hop is very light. The alcohol warms the palate, and the throat, and below. As it warms, there does seem to be pear, probably not apple. The mouth sensations do seem to turn a bit unpleasant, if one quits sipping. Sort of like heated banana. This is pretty complex. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 18/20 | Apr 8, 2004 Aroma is fruity and malty but not real bready like most barleywines. Taste is smooth for something that hasn't aged much. Taste is bready, caramel, plumbs and cherries. A little dry hop at the end. Alcohol is mild. This seems like a rather tame barleywine (which is surprising at 10.5%). I enjoyed it though. There's still enough flavor to make this a very good barleywine IMO. Got another one aging. Let's see. dankfor20 (193), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA
