Commercial Description:
Big malty flavors, including licorice and chocolate, are balanced with a moderate hop profile. Brewed with copious amounts of prized malts and flaked oats, the Barley Wine is so strong that it has to be aged for several months before we can bottle it. Like a fine wine, it will continue to improve with age up to 2 years after bottling (If kept cool).

Better than its rating suggests. This beer has a hoppy and sweet flavor, more hoppy than most BWs and not as sweet as most. Slightly high alcoholic taste. Mine was 10.3%.

Pours dark malty brown with almost no head. Very malty aroma with a hint dried fruit, brown sugar, and caramel malt . Taste is smooth and malty with just a hint of roasted malt and maybe a little bit of the hops. The malt hides some of the hops, but you get a little of the hop bitterness in the finish. Definitely a very malt driven barley wine and will be interesting with some aging.

Pours a murky dark brown colour with a small creamy tan head. Nose of dark fruits, raisins, sweet malts and alcohol. Initial taste of dark fruits, sweet malts and caramel. Moving into a soft cocoa powder and bitter hops that balance well. Dry chalky finish. Mild sticky mouthfeel. From the aroma was expecting a large alcohol presence which in turn was well masked. Palate duration is above average. Some head retention and lacing of the glass. Medium Body. Good Stuff.

(Bottle at Pikkulintu on 2008-06-04) Deep potr wine red colour. Very small tan-coloured head. Black currant and malts in nose. Full sugary palate. Dried plum, caramell and liquorice in taste. Slight bitterness in aftertaste. I liked this one.

Bottle. Pours a very nice clear dark amber with biege head. Aroma of Floral, malt, with alcohol aroma. Tast is very sweet, malty, hints of roasted grains, nice hop flavor and alcohol spice. Full body with medium carbonation. Good beer!

Nice, dark carmel color with beige head. Aroma is sweet malt with a little alcohol, reminds me of a gel that we used to be able to buy as kids 35 years ago and blow hard sided balloons out of with a hint of fake pineapple candy. Good fruit and brown sugar flavor that does seem to be a carbonated wine at times. Worth another taste sometime.

355ml bottle. pours with a decent head for a barley wine then dies down to a millimeter lacing is not to shabby either. smells like malty caramelly goodness, taste is pretty full bodied but quite smooth and the alcohol is well hidden. bitterness kind of hides in the background?
