| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 24, 2007 Pours a burnished red that sits dark in the glass. Shows deep ruby in the light. A thin lightly creamy mocha colored head sits atop. The nose is of sweet candy, dry vinous alcohol, caramel, English character, light licorice and molasses. Thick sweet flavor, strong molasses and licorice, dry alcohol, smooth round character. Palate is full and lets you know there’s carbonation there without distracting. Warms on the way down, not a bad BW. Enjoyit (1712), Vadum, Denmark

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 27, 2006 Updated: Feb 8, 2007This is the last of the "pack" I have yet to try. Pours from a bottle with a rusty, dark brown color and a small off white head. Decent lacing from a very frothy, almost nitrous-tap looking head. Aroma is pungent with citrus and licorice, followed by alcohol. Palate is mostly full, mildly carbonated and almost silky in texture, from the oats I’m sure. Flavor is hugely malty sighting hints of plum, licorice, chocolate and caramel. In the background is again the citrusy bitterness of the hops. Finishes malty sweet with the alcohol warming showing itself. Overall, not as complex as one might want in a barleywine, but for those of us that aren’t huge hopheads, it is an excellent big, malty brew. I’ll try again in a year, maybe a little more complexity.
Aged one year: Head is smaller and mostly diminishing. Nose now also picks up notes of apricot, molasses, and vanilla and far less alcohol. Flavor is sweeter and the bitterness is absent until the finish. Palate is similar. Not a great aging; nose is better and complex but other features are fairly similar. Preferred the fresh beer.
