| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jun 2, 2008 Bottle. Aroma of powerful hops and caramel in a Stone-like mix, with berry, toffee, grapefruit, and a whiff of alcohol. Plum and molasses. Essentially opaque brown pour with a light brown head. Bitingly hoppy taste, very sweet and boozy with light fumes, not quite cloying. Big caramel and toffee really set in and entrench themselves around the teeth. Big grape and plum with molasses. Woody, oaky notes, and an actual semblance of balance between the heavy, syrupy crystal malt and the hops. Full body and a kick in the teeth. Tongue-numbing. Dry, nearly-nutty aftertaste. Better than expected - not fit for the top shelf, but still a pretty good dessert BW. JJClark (546), Roscoe, Illinois, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 29, 2007 Bottle. Pours a muddy brown color with a thin off white head. Aroma of caramel, hops and raisins. Taste of malt and fermented fruit. Finshes smooth. Not a bad barleywine just nothing outstanding about it. PhysZac (69), Indianapolis, Indiana, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 18, 2006 Bottle. Dark brooding pour like thick apple cider yields a soapy brown head which slides down the glass with clawing lace. Aroma of brown sugar and caramel with a bit of sweet milk chocolate. Sip. Kicks my teeth in. Wasn’t ready for the assault. Covers tongue, and I pick out sweet caramel, apple, and raisins. Then a pineapple tartness leads to a biting fruit finish of crabapple. Dry and biting. Warming up, much much better. Mellow, sweet candy and raisin. Barely any bitter finish. Palate starts out dry, burning, and sticky, but then finishes mouth-numbing, warming and creamy. Notice I did not mention alcohol. It is less evident after warming than was at beginning. Maybe because I’m already under its spell. Sample could of used some aging perhaps. A very good brew. Svesse (2683), Hässelby, Sweden

Fruity, malty nose with dried fruit, slightly vinous. Malty taste with notes of dried fruit, caramel and a decent bitterness in the finish. Rather vinous, medium to full body, balanced sweetness. Tasty and nicely balanced, but wouldn’t suffer from a little more character. jpm30 (1588), East Central, Georgia, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 13, 2006 From a 12 oz. long neck brown bottle with no bottled/freshness date. Sampled at cellar temperature.
Made a good appearance, poured a cloudy milk chocolate brown with a small foamy head that settled into a thin bubbly lacing, moderate carbonation.
Had a nose of caramel and butter, spicy alcohol and ripe date and fig fruity.
A smooth full bodied mouth feel, good drinkability.
Big malty taste, caramelized and a little sour bready, spicy subtle alcohol, fig fruity, a mild hop bite and a spicy, grainy and alcohol warm finish.
A nice barley wine from Flying Dog, warming and tasty. The artwork on the bottles is by Ralph Steadman.

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 18, 2006 sample from bottle - Pours dark brown with very little head. The aroma is malts with a hint of dark fruit and alcohol. It has a nice, full mouthfeel with a pleasantly balanced malt flavor. The alcohol is pretty well masked, so it’s not overly hot like some barley wines. It’s not complex, but it does its thing well. mbeem (104), New Hope, Alabama, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 17, 2005 Updated: Dec 28, 2006Pours a cloudy brown reminiscent of raisins. No head at all with a sweet malty aroma when swirled. Medium-light body. Initial sweetness gives way to a soft hoppiness then alcohol in the finish. There is also a tanginess detectable on the sides of the tongue at the back that seemed to hit right after the swallow. A good beer!
