Commercial Description:
Big malty flavors, including licorice and chocolate, are balanced with a moderate hop profile. Brewed with copious amounts of prized malts and flaked oats, the Barley Wine is so strong that it has to be aged for several months before we can bottle it. Like a fine wine, it will continue to improve with age up to 2 years after bottling (If kept cool).

Pours a nearly opaque violet/brown with a small, sparse tan head. I hate to rip off the commercial description, but the aroma is full of licorice and chocolate, with little alcohol present for a 10.5% beast. Flavor is super malty, with similar tones as the aroma, but the malt bill really comes through. This is loaded, very sweet and rich, coating my entire mouth with caramely goodness. Finishes dry and sticky. The alcohol is never very much present. Good stuff!

Advertised as a barleywine, I’m not sure if it is. Almost too bitter for the style; more like an imperial IPA. Very good; flavors of sweet maltiness and bitter hops. Has decent head retention, lacing, and a clear garnet color. This is good, and the 10.5% ABV is almost undetectible. Once again, a great beer from the brewers who give beers goofy names.

From a 12 oz bottle this poured a very clear and garnet color with a rich and foamy tan head that lasted a long time and left big lacing rings. Nose of fruit and caramel malts. Flavor is complex with lots of fruit and there is a nice bitter finish. Would like to see this aged, so will put the remaining bottle in the back of the beer cellar and try to remember to pull it out next spring.

Bottle from Cornboy. Pours a deep brown body with small beige head. Aroma is sweet, malty, caramel, dark fruit (plums). Taste is sweet, dark fruits again, caramel, toffee. Finish has a medium alcohol burn. Medium-full body. Better than anticipated.

Brownish red in color. Lacy tan head. Viscous and malty. Sweet and not too hoppy. Should age fairly well.

Though a lot of their other beers are average I always have a hard time turning down a barley wine I haven’t tried. This on pours a deep brown color with reddish highlights and a slight white head that fell to a collar fairly quickly. Smells of fruit sweetness with a bit of alcohol and a touch of hops, fairly pleasant smelling overall. The sweetness starts the taste out here before a hop bitterness and alcohol kicked in for the finish. This is defiantly a thick barley wine with a great mouthfeel. This is easily my favorite beer from the brewery and a good barley wine in its own right

Dark brown with some ruby highlights. Great aroma- dark fruit, licorice, alcohol, sweet malt, and a hint of hop bitterness. Flavor starts with some bitterness and quickly turns to sweet malt with lots of fruit and licorice. Flavor lingers before a bitter finish. Nice and warming.
