Commercial Description:
Big malty flavors, including licorice and chocolate, are balanced with a moderate hop profile. Brewed with copious amounts of prized malts and flaked oats, the Barley Wine is so strong that it has to be aged for several months before we can bottle it. Like a fine wine, it will continue to improve with age up to 2 years after bottling (If kept cool).

Bottle at home. Dark dark red/brown - small offwhite head. Aroma: Brown sugar, syrup, raisins, dried dark fruits, light hoppy bitterness, grassy. Taste: Barley, sweetness, brown sugar, dark bread, citrus, light woody. Nice - not much obvious alcohol just a light alcho-burn !!

Poured from a vintage 2003B bottle, this is a deep, dark amber color, pretty thick and syrupy coming from the bottle. The aroma was like wine: with grape/raisin and alcohol most noticeable. The flavor starts with some hoppy bitterness followed by fruity and wine tastes, and finishes with some nice alcohol warmth. Enjoyable.

Bottle. Hands down the best I have ever had from Flying Dog. This is not at all a bad barleywone. Very enjoyable. Very murky, brown apple cider-ish pour -minimal head. Very sweet, very malty, delicious. Sweet, dark fruits dominate the flavor. Clean taste that has a very nice hop balance. A good beer.

Bottle. Appearance is dark brown with a tiny beige head. Aroma of fruit, caramel, booze, and malt. Taste is sweet malt and fruit, with some alchol burn in the finish. Body is full and carbonation is moderate.

Pours a dark brown, almost black with a nice light tan head. Nice dried fruits, smoke, sweet malt, toffee, and mollases. Very sweet flavor, with an almost toffee like flavor. Milk chocolate and light citrus try to, but fail, in mellowing the alcohol. A little bit too sweet and hot, but tasty nonetheless.

This is part of a beer club. Had only one bottle but was decent for the price. Poured great and had a nice finish. Would do again.

12 oz. bottle, 2007 vintage. Bonus in a trade with the awesome Acknud. Pours a hazy deep muddy brown color with ruby undertones. Thin tan head with no lace. Nose is mild pine tree with sweet maltyness. Nice thick oily mouthfeel. Alcohol soaked candy flavor. Cherries, plums, with hops. Hoppy, slightly bitter finish.

I liked this one. Marked as 10.2%. Small, creamy, off-whitee head with a murky amber body. Decent lacing, as far as retention goes, the head reverts to just a ring in about 2 and a half minutes. Aroma is of sugar, seeded fruites, and chocolate malts. Flavor is of licorice, vanilla, chocolate, alcohol, coffee grounds and dates. Creamy mouthfeel, light carbonation, noticable alcohol.
