Commercial Description:
Big malty flavors, including licorice and chocolate, are balanced with a moderate hop profile. Brewed with copious amounts of prized malts and flaked oats, the Barley Wine is so strong that it has to be aged for several months before we can bottle it. Like a fine wine, it will continue to improve with age up to 2 years after bottling (If kept cool).

Bottle; poured an amber/brown color with only the faint trace of a tan head. Aroma of caramel, dark fruit, alcohol, earth, with a bit of citrusy hop in the finish. Based on the fairly low ratings for the style, I was expected this to be worse. It was actually quite solid. Very earthy, with notes of caramel and fruit. Alcohol was present, but about what you would expected given the ABV. The finish is slightly sweet with some earthiness. After taste lingers for a bit and it was quite nice. A solid beer overall.

Bottle gift from Dennis Bell ( My Brew Master) Deeb Brownish Red pour with one finger thick beige head. Malty, raisin/dark fruit aroma. Mild hop bitter finish with an alcohol pop. It was a rather good beer.

12oz. bottle, purchased a year or so ago. Pours a dark burgundy with a nice three finger fluffy tan head, great retention and lacing. Aroma is ripe dark fruits, dried apple, honey, and a touch of molasses. Flavor is more sweetly malty, with candied and dried dark fruits, and molasses. Not overly complex, definitely heavily malty, moderately sweet. I wouldn’t purchase again as there are much better readily available out there, but overall a decent enough barleywine.

Thin head, but there is lacing. Medium muddy brown color. Boozy and sweet aromas. Super sweet and chockfull of malts. Some hops, but the malts outweigh. Dark fruit all over the place. Sugary and thick.

355ml bottle. BB 15.04.10 Served with only a light chill. Pours fantastically with a big thick light caramel head atop a copper-highlighted mahogany body. Aroma is liquorice and leather straightup, banana and raisin come through with a spicy vanilla oak character. Hint of bitter chocolate, grass, toffee and citrus hang in the background. Creamy body, seems somewhat subdued for such a strong beer, very smooth for the most part, sticky texture. Bitterness manifest itself towards the finish. Rich chocolate and burnt toffee malt upfront, bit of creamy cereal leads onto more complicated flavours of green banana, unripe peach and melon, leafy/grassiness is quite prominant. Woody spice lingers on the finish, reasonably smooth, bitterness is big but not too sharp. Would have to say this is probably one of the rougher barley wines i’ve come across. Certainly has the potential to age well, but a bit harsh at this point.

Good malt flavor. Nice high abv but it’s not overwhelming. Bottle seemed expensive for what it was.

(Bottle)Poured into a Sifter. Poured a dark, dark amber with a medium frothy head. Smell was sweet and a little nutty, no alchohol was present in the smell. Very mild taste with a mild bitter aftertaste. You do not notice the alchohol presence(10.3%). This is a very good Barley WIne.

Bottle. Moderate malt aromas of dark bread, toasted and molasses, moderate hop notes of orange peel and a bit of pine, and a very light yeast smell of soap with raisin, prune, tawny port, cherry and toffee in the background. Head is creamy, off-white with fair lacing and is fully diminishing. Color is darker than most barley wines I’ve seen. Flavor starts moderately sweet and finishes heavily sweet and lightly acidic and bitter. Palate is medium to full, between oily and creamy, and the carbonation is between soft and lively. It finishes lightly alcoholic, dry and a little sticky on the lips. The hop component could’ve been a bit more complex. A good barley wine but with all the other really great ones available there isn’t much reason to go back to this one.
