changeup45 (578), Orlando, Florida, USA May 10, 2008 Deep brown/amber color, some haze and a moderate head that settles to a pretty nice foamy ring on top. Aroma is sugary with alcohol, sweet malts and some oak. The flavor is sweet raisins and plums with maple sugar and honey with some alcohol noticeable. Finishes with some spice and hops. Not complex but good. For whatever reason, while not as complex, this reminds me a little of Dogfish Immort. Pretty easy drinking for a barleywine even as it warms. Not spectacular but I liked it.
Rciesla (871), Brick City, New Jersey, USA Oct 9, 2008 Bottle. Pours a ruby brown body with a quickly diminishing head. Nice dark fruit flavor of raisin and grapes. The etoh makes it come off a bit vinous, a nice viscous mouthfeel very sweet. Good beer. jsh12bama (227), Alabama, USA Oct 3, 2008 Pours ruby red with thick tan head. Aroma of malt and dark fruit. Taste is very sweet with heavy notes of dark fruits ,maybe plums. Big alcohol finish. Decent. hughie (2254), Bedford, Bedfordshire, England Oct 3, 2008 Reddish brown. Smooth, sweet malty aroma with stewed plums. Taste is heavy and sweet, almost cloyingly so, full of dark, figgy fruitiness, alcohol, and black, chewy liquorice. There’s a thick, lingering dryness at the finish. Should have kept this one for Christmas. demitriustown (589), Macomb, Michigan, USA Sep 28, 2008 12 oz bottle: Aroma is big on malt, caramel, hard candy, dark fruit like plum, and somewhat of a hop backing. Pours a very dark muddy red/amber with a thick tan head that lingers. Taste is really sweet, again with the plum, malt coming through, caramel candy, and a light nuttiness. Palate is heavy on the tongue with an aftertaste of a lingering caramel malt flavor. Overall, Decent Barleywine I think I’m drinking this a little too young but decent all around. Cheers! Quizot (1), Suwanee, Georgia, USA does not count Sep 27, 2008 12 oz. bottles sold in a 4-pPack. Poured like a hazy ice tea, not much head to speak of. Dark fruit, plumy with almost a hint of honey. Satisfying, warming alcohol finish.
