Dark nut brown color, steady creamy beige head. Hoppy, a bit toasted malty aroma. Caramelly, some hops in the background but mostly brown ale type "winter beer". Short finish.

From bottle : Pours a dark clear brown with small off white head. A big malty aroma with toffee and hints of alcohol. Thick body that is creamy but bitter toward the end. Taste is malty and toffee but has a little medicine side to it as well, a little to much for me.

Had this beer on 12/30/1999. Aroma is a strong malt scent that seems creamy. Color is a deep rich nut brown with light carbonation and a thin head. Taste is mild and creamy. Starting with a medium body it goes down with a caramely malt taste. The finish is where the creamy part comes in, it’s malty with only the slightest bitterness at the very end. I thought it would be a bit stronger tasting than it is, but its good.

Appearance: Clear red body with a medium-sized, off-white head. Smell: Prominant cherry-berry scent with notes of malt and alcohol. Taste: Sweet toffee malts with just a tiny bit of chocolate and an oddly medicinal sour cherry flavor throughout and the finish and the aftertaste. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Moderate carbonation. Drinkability: Winter has never looked bleaker.

Bottled. Poured clear iced tea brown with a short cap of beige head.. left sticky lacing as it descended. The aroma was of toffee, nutty, chocolate, and molasses sugars with some floral and herbal notes present.. quite nice. The flavor was more or less a mess.. artificially-sweetened caramel and nutty notes were mashed into the core with little definition.. tacky caramel and toffee at the sides.. milder herbal bitterness mulling around.. sharp and sweet on the finish. Light-medium bodied with an artificial feel to it.. tacky finish.. OK.

Pours a blood red with a huge froathy creamy off white head. Good aroma of malty toffee, with light notes of vanilla and green wood. Some complex malty flavours, with notes of toffee sweetness and strong notes of cider a very light hop finish. Could be a little better balanced but still pretty damn tasty.

They had this listed as a porter at the beer festival I attended. I thought, "Man, this is hoppy for a porter." Here it’s called a strong ale. Who knows. Anyway, had a roasted malty taste, akin to a porter but a strong hoppy presence, which isn’t usually there in a porter. Had a smoky taste to it that was a nice touch.
