| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 18, 2005 Nice large beige head of fine bubles. Nice and creamy on top. Caramel, toffee, plenty of malts and some dark fruit. Color is a nice dark mahagony red. Smooth and creamy on the tongue. Light roasted malts with some more caramel and nuts. Lite smokey finish with more nuts. Alcohol is hidden very well and the finish is smooth and creamy but short lived. A very good brew. jasonp (1513), Sterling/Dulles, Virginia, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jul 29, 2005 Nice dark, clear mahogany with a medium off-white head. Aroma of caramel, cherry and some hops. Very sweet. Flavor has notes of caramel, cola, dark fruits, toffee, toasted and some roasted malt and chocolate. Has a moderate hop presence but I wish it was more prominent to back up the sweetness. Medium body with a smooth texture and subtle carbonation. Not much lacing or head retention. | 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jun 22, 2005 dark brown. aroma is malty. taste malty sweet with toffee and finishes with a faint bitterness and some floral hops. notes of chocolate come into play along with some strange diet cola taste towards the finish. i think i served this one a bit too cold as it seemed to improve as it warmed a bit from fridge temp. overall, another average beer from this brewery. jefcon (1009), Arlington, Virginia, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 1/5 | 12/20 | Jun 16, 2005 Gradiated browns in the glass, with a clinging off-white head. Aromas are caramel, chocolate, some spice, and the orange citrus of hops. Works well on the nose, but throws a boomerang on the palate. Malts dominate the front end while bitter chocolate bends back the finish to an airy finale. Uneven palate is not as bad as the light mouthfeel. Not very strong for a strong ale, either -- only 6.8 percent -- it is sweet and not so warming. TheBeerOrg (1589), Kentucky, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jun 13, 2005 Updated: Nov 28, 2008Pours reddish brown with a mostly receding off-white. Aroma of caramel, plum, light hop aroma (pine), and sticky malt. Taste is sweet toffee, caramel, hop resins, and some slightly medicinal notes. Full bodied, lightly sticky and a bit boozy. A bit unrefined, as expected. lagermonkey (597), Marietta, Georgia, USA
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Jun 4, 2005 Pours a deep reddish brown with a frothy tan head. Lots of lace. Smells of caramel and loght citrus hops.
Taste is malty and a bit sour. There’s an unpleasant fruitiness and some buttery flavors. The malt and hops flavors don’t mesh. Some spice detected. Sticky and lightly spicy mouth. This is a struggle to get through. Not well done.
