This Lager had a light amber color with a dissipating white head. There is a mild caramel / flowery aroma with a fresh biscuit taste. Not very exciting, but very drinkable !! Aroma is flowery hops, sweet caramel malt, and spice. Very impressive flavor, hops and biscuits, with a crisp, dry finish. Mouthfeel is what you’d expect from the style, Overall, a very impressive beer, especially for the style. VTHopHead (928), Barre, Vermont, USA

Aroma was somewhat of flowery hops and caramel malts. Flavor was surprisingly hoppy and bitter with some sweetness at the finish. Not too bad... lemasney (398), Trenton, New Jersey, USA

First Impression: Not your typical american lager. Delicious surprising hops depth, dark bitter finish, and very nice color.
Aroma is slightly flowery, hops and malt. Woody.
Visuals include a beautifully varied yellow, pale, amber body. Depth is variable, and visually stunning. Very clear and brilliant.
Taste is surprising; roasted toasted, nutty, smoky, wheat, corn, and malt. Clearly distinguishable from the average lager.
Palate is roof of mouth, crisp, dry, actively carbonated, with a long, dark, very nice bitter finish.
Second Impression. This is quite enjoyable, and I was taken by surprise, because I expected a much less enjoyable beer, not because of the brewery, but because of the style. Great work, as per the usual, Flying Dog.

| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | May 23, 2008 Nothing impressive about this beer. Looks and smells a bit like boston lager without as much character. Burnt pine aroma reminds me of the smell of the wild fires that burn along the florida interstates in late winter or early spring. The head receded immediately. I see many people commenting on the malt flavor which I don’t taste other than burnt smokiness and hop bitterness on the tongue. Finish is metallic and astringent-like. Meh. Sam Adams is a much better lager with similar but better executed characteristics. keepersj12 (811), Sicklerville, New Jersey, USA

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 21, 2008 Bottle. Pours an amber colour with a white head. Aroma is very malty with notes of caramel and (buttery) fudge. Flavour is also very malty with some sweetness. Notes of caramel, (buttery) fudge with just a hint of bitterness. mgumby10 (1858), Jupiter, Florida, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 18, 2008 Pours a clear dark copper, with a fluffy, light tan head. Smells of sweet malts with a touch of dark fruits, and bread. Nothing too exciting in the nose. The flavor was much of the same. Just your basic light caramel malt flavor, mixed in with maybe some apple or grape. All very subtle flavors of course, nothing big and bold, but certainly sessionable. The finish had some nutty notes that left a little roasty edge on the palate. Decent enough.
